Announcements post #321: Happy 3rd Birthday, Starmourn!
From: Fiendish Damiel, Pew Pew Pew
Subject: Happy 3rd Birthday, Starmourn!
Hi, Starmourners!
Today, December 15th, is Starmourn's third birthday!
And hasn't it been quite the year?!
We started the year with ship customization improvements, and a new batch of Storytellers - Nicnevin, Argus and Neritus! We introduced Smash tables, newbie kits and daily streaks. We added lawlessness as a proper thing, crew spars, spacewalking and a ship VR arena, as well as an ooc command, class emotes and soooo much more.
In June we lost our previous Lead Producer, Eukelade, as she moved on to pastures new (on good terms, and she does come back to help out every now and then!) and Neritus and I took over as co-leads.
Since then we have launched Hardcore mode which was an IRE first that saw permadeath being a thing for the first time in all the realms. We (read: Neritus) did a HUGE revamp on armor and weapon modding, giving you your own team of employees for the first time. We recruited MORE new Storytellers (welcome, Domin and Astor!) and more volunteer coders (hi there Ferenzi and Bricky!).
*Takes a breath*
We introduced the art tradeskill, we had a full round of classleads, we built, stocked and evented the Floating Market, we made player shops a thing, we launched player habitations, enabling you to own your own home in Starmourn for the first time. We made credit shops and broke records for the number of missioncontrol shots fired in one month. We reworked ship weapons, and mining - introducing ore crushers and gas compressors and making harvest drones universal. We made faction ships a thing, and made large asteroids explorable and explodable BOOM!
We introduced Rapadruk, and held a great roleplay event for halloween centered around the HugTech factory. OH MY GOD WE ALSO INTRODUCED SPACE TWITT... Flogger!
Sooooo much has happened this year that I'm legitimately staring at the 2021 announcement posts boggling and actually feeling really very proud of all of our staff, volunteers and players. We may still be the little sibling in the IRE family, but we sure as bala pack a punch, right?!
...and we have no plans on stopping!
To thank you for sticking with us, or to welcome you back if you've recently returned (it's been amazing to see so many old faces returning lately), or to welcome you for the first time if you're new - we on the Starmourn Team would like to give every player of the game a little anniversary present.
If you log on in the next couple of days, you'll receive a limited edition, interactive item and a simple giftcatcher - no strings attached.
Thank you again, from all of us. Here's to another year in space!

Announcements post #313: New Contest Inbound!
From: Argus, the Tiniest Feracht
Subject: New Contest Inbound!
[[Imagine many small 'mews' translated via 'sim]]
Hi everybody! I'm Argus, a tiny feracht with a rather dashing bowtie. Check this out:
In what we believe is an unprecedented contest, we are offering an opportunity for one lucky player to win the chance to work alongside myself (and any other STs who may be interested) to create a playable area that will be a permanent feature in lore. That's right! A whole area with quests, things to hunt, denizens to interact with, and lore material inspired by YOU.
Here's what you need to submit:
1. A summary about your area. Who lives there? Why does it exist? What lore elements are you connecting? What MIL player would use this area?
2. Three huntable mobs in the area - What are they, what do they look like, and what do their attacks look like?
3. One idea for a quest in this region.
4. One mob shop or service in the area that players will be able to frequent.
Submissions should be submitted as a pastebin file or google doc - anything that allows me to access it via a link. All submissions will be due by sync on JANUARY 16TH, 2022. In addition to my other projects, I am personally volunteering my time to work alongside whichever creative folk are excited to dive in on this with us and make your vision a reality. We know our players are the best and most creative minds around - Don't let me down, folks!
Participants may be someone with strong RP looking to leave a mark, someone who wants to be considered for an ST position, or just someone with a really creative idea they'd like to bring to fruition. Whatever your motivation, we want you and your ideas to be a contributing force to the incredible world of Starmourn!
If you have any questions, please message me in game as that is the quickest way to reach me. Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with to kick off 2022!
By the power of my sharp claws - and Damiel's approval - This contest is now OPEN!

Announcements post #309: A Walk To November.
From: Fiendish Damiel, Pew Pew Pew
Subject: A Walk To November.
Hello everyone,
As you may be aware, since Neritus and I took over as producers in June, we have been trying to prioritise developing actual content and events for Starmourn, rather than just pushing promo after promo. Neither of us is paid anywhere near full time wages for our roles here, so in the interests of self-care and in order for us to stay motivated and most of all enjoying this game that we're all so passionate about, we want to put in place some sustainable changes that enable us to focus on what's most important to the game - content, mechanics and most of all, player enjoyment!
Because of this, we're streamlining how our promos work even more. You will now find that a lot of the things you might win on mission control are available around the world with credit prices attached to them. These are bought with bound credits only, and are available whenever you feel like buying them! There are credit shops at each of the faction stations and Omni selling the following items to begin with:
-----------------------------------< Wares >-----------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're also going to be adding all of the standard promo pets to the pet shops of the sector, as well as creating some vehicle dealerships where you'll be able to buy hoverbikes and rovers etc. We've actually already started this, so keep your eyes peeled for credit items in NPC shops!
Because there's been so much going on this month, and we have these changes, we don't have a big load of new things for you on mission control, but you will notice that it's changed a little! The prizes you'll see now will be the standard basics, and when we have special themes and events, the items will be added in. The 'Random exciting promo item' draws from a pool of all the promo items we've had (apart from items covered in the other 'random' prizes).
We're really hoping this will mean that Neri and I will have more time to actually develop the game, and that you all will still want to buy stuff, be it mission control batteries, chips in the credit shop, pets, customizations or anything else. We still very much rely on the income to keep the game running, and one day we'd love for it to be a big success in every respect - and we really believe it can be.
If you have any other requests for the credit shops, please let me know.
Please bear in mind that we're basically paid for 10% of the hours we tend to do - so if it takes a little while for us to get to your bug or issue, we're working our little butts off to try to get everything done as soon as we can - we want you all to be happy and excited to play!
The big things this month will be an auction (to follow!) and shipmodding is on its way... so stay tuned and thank you all for your support. We loooooove you allllll <3

Announcements post #303: HugTech Orbital!
From: Feracht Whisperer Soren
Subject: HugTech Orbital!
Hey all,
Not to spoiler too much of the ongoing plot, but:
- New area, HugTech O.M, accessible via Litharge's space elevator or by docking with it in space.
- This area should be scaling, so anyone of any level is free to try their luck there.
- There are quests to do, but we're going to give everyone a chance to play around and contribute until we open the area further... so be patient and let poor Arley work!
- Stay tuned for more! Bug anything that's broken!

Announcements post #299: Inventory part 2.
From: World Engineer Senzei
Subject: Inventory part 2.
Hi again!
Two announcements quickly? Yes. Almost immediately upon the last post I was asked verbally glomped by eager Starmourners.
You can now append the word 'here' to the end of statements to skip checking your inventory. So PUT <item> IN <container> always looks for the container in your inventory first, so you had to target items in room by number. You can now use PUT <item> IN <container> HERE to skip checking if it is in your inventory. Note this means it will fail if you say here and mean your inventory!
I am visible in case something breaks.

Announcements post #298: Inventory Management.
From: World Engineer Senzei
Subject: Inventory Management.
Hello Starmourners!
I have just implemented one of our most requested features for inventory management. The dot syntax! There was discussion on whether to use pre or post syntax, but in the end I just decided to implement both.
TAKE, DROP and related commands should work normally if you want to use them in the normal way, but you may now use arguments.
Want to get the 3rd of an item in the room? 3.<item> and <item>.3 will both take the third item specifically. You can also always seek the last item using last.<item> or <item>.last.
So for summary:
You can now use <LAST|#>.<item> and <item>.<LAST|#>. Lower case the "last"!
If there are issues, I will be online and visible to let me know!

TAG UR IT NO U (the next MK event, but pvp is OPTIONAL)
Hello everyone!
Was sharing some thoughts that things have gotten a bit slower since the last wave of new players coming in despite all the new and snazzy stuff being put in the game recently, so I was thinking of the next game/event to implement/get people involved.
Population + timing = my biggest headaches from the tourny and mournball (we still haven't played a single game yet; tho I have also not advertised it after the first couple of weeks of designing it)
SO, I was thinking of doing something that EVERYONE can get involved in- a game of tag of some sorts! Something that spans for a while IRL week or something.
Basically would involve giving/passing objects to people like hot potato OR grabbing said objects from certain targets.
Still developing ideas for it, but essentially thinking of something like Tag + Murderer + Secret Santa + something like the Hunter's Exam from Hunter x Hunter.
As everyone should be able to play this WITHOUT being a pvp-er, I want the items to be:
Tradeable
Giveable
Drops on Death (pvp only)
Resets if misplaced by current holder
NOT mailable
Gameplay ideas:
1) secret santa style - you have targets to get tags from or give tags to -> more goals met = more points = more prizes
2) capture the flag
3) bounties??
4) mass tag??
Very early stage and a bit all over the place as you can see, but please share your ideas! Would be open to hearing ppl's thoughts about what could work and what you'd like to see/what you think may be cool to add.
Thanks and hope to hear from you!
-Xuth
p.s. I'm still paying 50 credits to people who contribute class/game-system (e.g. battlebots, ship building, ship pvp, etc) guides to Clan MK! Please send them to me for vetting before they can be posted!

Announcements post #294: Domin and Astor!
From: Blaster Master Damiel, Pew Pew Pew
Subject: Domin and Astor!
Hello all!
It gives me great pleasure to introduce to you all our newest Storytellers, who have both just graduated from cadets into actual storytellers!
Please welcome, Domin and Astor!
In the past, Storytellers have been tied to specific factions, but we're moving away from that system slightly, with the team taking a more skills-based assignation of tasks. The existing storyteller names still appear at the top of your faction help files, and those people will obviously continue to work on the projects they are already involved in, but we with it's important that, for example, the person who is especially good at and enjoys roleplaying, is able to do that aspect of an event, while the one who prefers making quests does the quests etc etc.
We're still figuring out the finer details, but I think we'd rather be more of a holistic team, and thereby offering consistent attention to all factions and players. So therefore neither Domin or Astor has been assigned to a specific faction.
They've both been learning really fast, and getting on really well, so I think you can expect to see a lot more of them now they are released into the wild!
We also now have three new worldbuilders, who have been doing great, helping us out with room descs and associated things. A huge welcome, and thank you, to you all, too!
Best wishes,
Damiel

It's a Hardcore No-Brainer
Hi all!
The much-anticipated Hardcore No-Brainer has arrived. Here's how it works:
- As a Hardcore character, you can purchase your 2 lesson and 1 credit No-Brainer packages as always.
- On all future character, you can use the HARDCORE NOBRAINER syntax to claim the No-Brainer lessons and credits in full.
- BONUS! Hardcore characters are allowed to purchase No-Brainers on a character that's already claimed them. However, HARDCORE NOBRAINER CLAIM caps out at 2 lesson packages and 1 credit package.
- What this effectively means is that you can exceed the normal restriction and have 4 lesson packs and 2 credit packs on the same character, but the extra packs will die along with your character.
HELP HARDCORE file has been updated to reflect this! Feel free to ask questions if this explanation is unclear!
Take care,
Neritus
