Announcements post #183: Changes to Ships.
From: Starmaker Eukelade
Subject: Changes to Ships.
Made a few changes to ships today, namely:
- Tweaked the power capacity for destroyers slightly upward across the board
- Added a new shipsim for superhaulers
- Superhaulers will now handle SLIGHTLY better
- Superhaulers will now come with a medium weapon slot.
- There are also some new Destroyer, Cruise, and Corvette superstructures available for purchase from Serenity Forgeworks and Vertix Luxury Systems. They are expensive, but their stats have been significantly boosted.
If you run into issues with the changes don't hesitate to file a bug, more tweaks coming soon.

Announcements post #179: Wanted: Storytellers!
From: Starmaker Eukelade
Subject: Wanted: Storytellers!
The Starmourn team currently has an opening for a new Storyteller - possibly two if we get some really good applicants - and we are looking for someone or someones with enthusiasm and passion to shape the future of everyone's favorite space mud!
Storytellers are meant, first and foremost, to drive player stories in an individual faction and take the lead on its creative direction. While we do have rules and restrictions for our volunteer staff, we have perks as well! Storytellers have a lot of creative freedom within those rules, and are able to shape the direction of the game for themselves and players under their jurisdiction - with guidance from Senior Staff!
If you have good communication skills, the ability to finish what you start, and think you're up for being an active member of our volunteers, please consider sending in an application to eukelade@starmourn.com with answers to the following questions.
-----------------------
1. Why do you want to be a Storyteller?
2. How much time do you think you will be able to contribute to the game in a normal week?
3. What do you think you will bring to the game?
4. What are your expectations for being a Storyteller?
5. What three things would you change about Starmourn?
6. How would you describe yourself in online interactions?
7. What's your mud experience like?
8. What do you think your most valuable contribution to Starmourn has been, thus far?
9. What's your favorite feature of Starmourn, and why?
-----------------------
Looking forward to hearing from you!
You have until 11:59pm on Monday, February 1st, to apply.

Announcements post #178: New Prizes For Mission Control!
From: Starmaker Eukelade
Subject: New Prizes For Mission Control!
Hey all. Just a quick update to our Mission Control game this month. As of this posting, the count has been reset to 0, which means that whoever lands shot 150 will take home the rare Heartstart artifact, allowing you to revive a fallen player once an hour. At shot 300, a second Heartstart prize will be given away!
Not only that, but the frequency of bonus credit prizes has been increased! Now, every 25 shots, someone will take home a bonus 50 credit prize.
We have a few brand new prizes on the grid as well.
Because it's the new year, you might want to take home our page-a-day holographic calendar. This calendar will handily tell you the date when you probe it, along with a random fact about the sector you live in or a unique historical tidbit about the day in question. That's 360 unique facts about Starmourn. If you're a lore junky, this prize is for you.
We also have two new zines thanks to the hard work of Soren and Damiel - dress your metallic best with the styles found in Asteroid Mining Weekly, or dazzle the galaxy with Urbane's new "Interstellar" collection of customization options.
Good luck with the prize winning, Starmourners!

Announcements post #177: Ship Customization Improvements, Part One.
From: Starmaker Eukelade
Subject: Ship Customization Improvements, Part One.
Hello, Starmourners!
You may have noticed, if you've travelled through a docking bay in the last few...minutes...that the usual glut of interceptors, corvettes, superhaulers, and etcetera is gone from the bottom of the room descriptions. That is because we've released the first of two planned changes to our ship customization system. We have mechanical improvements in the works as well, but because I am extra, I really wanted to give you all a reason to pimp your rides. Thanks to Zersiax's hard work, the following changes have occurred:
- Ships will now only display to the room they're docked in if you choose to display them.
- Ships will now exist with their own unique room entry and display by name, make, and model, instead of being grouped into a generic cluster of its class.
- Ships are now able to be looked at by typing LOOK SHIPNAME instead of sorting through a massive list of currently docked vessels.
To display your ship to a station when it is docked, type SHIP VISIBLE ON while on board your vessel. Currently, to cut down on room spam, only players with captaincy level 5 and over can make their ship visible to a room, and you may only have one ship on display at any one time.
Remember, to customize your ship's paint job, hull shape, and a bunch of other things, use the SHIP DESIGN command while docked at a station with a chopshop. Check out HELP CHOPSHOP for more.
More changes to this system coming next week. Enjoy the new visibility and ease of ogling other people's ships!

Re: Idea: Elgan Public Access Holoshrine
This is a really cool idea! I love it when I see things like this because it means y'all find the world engaging and interesting enough to want to expand what there is to know about it.
The shrine idea is a very Elgan thing (for that matter, it's also a little similar to Krona culture - Krona also revere their ancestors if they did cool stuff, though they don't find them godly or divine. There's a library on Gunurash III that has something very similar to what you're describing in the room description, even if it hasn't been fully fleshed out yet.)
The scoreboard idea is an interesting twist...imagine dying without a high score, heh.
Thank you for the post! Maybe we'll see something like this in Biloxan one day!

Idea: Elgan Public Access Holoshrine
Here with a little proposal for a shiny RP/lore tool. How do my fellow 'gans feel about it?
Elgans revere their ancestors as gods, are fascinated by tech, and place strong emphasis on social justice and responsibility despite being chaotic swamp-frog-goblins
For these reasons, I'd like to suggest the addition of a new room/building in Biloxan - a public access holoshrine, in which players can input the names of Elgans past to bring up a little bit of dialogue and description about the deceased. It makes sense to me as a way to widely educate people about important figures, to celebrate their culture and contributions to their society, and to serve as an outlet for any 'gan to worship or reflect if necessary.
Their fixation on wealth generation and gaming would also, in my opinion, demand the addition of a 'total wealth contribution' score, which would be an inflation-adjusted count of how much wealth was contributed to the Trinity for redistribution at the time of their death. This scoreboard of top earners would be a clear indication of their highly gamified culture, and a fun little quirk you wouldn't typically expect to see in a place of worship. (Plus, ICly, it would be a good motivator to ensure families don't use their clout to hoard resources - you don't want your family's gods to be ranked low, so you go out of your way to increase the total donation score!)
Likely names of deceased Elgans to reference at the outset would be figures already named in brief via memorials, such as Corwin Meron, Heldisa Venci, and both 'Telean' and 'Govan', and should be expanded to reflect any deceased named Elgans from events and lore.
Let me know what you think!

Announcements post #174: Lots of fixes and updates!
From: Heroically Concise Damiel
Subject: Lots of fixes and updates!
Hello Space Cadets!
Here's a big ol' update list of what I've been upto this past week or so:
Jins & Juice RP event:
Last weekend Soren and I ran a super fun player-requested RP event with Ibo, Poet and Gwoss in Bodean. Check your junk for the results! (pun intended)
Litharge player org additions:
- After its shady start in Tranquility Deepness, Stareater Industries has moved to a new and hi-tech HQ premises in Litharge's Corporate Territory.
- Our favorite cuddly do-gooders GCEPS have also finally got a headquarters in the slightly less corporate undercity.
I wonder if any of you resourceful types can think of a way to get into their secure spaces? Hmm...
Xenozoo Bounty:
I've added all other accessible xenozoo animals (doesn't include one-offs, fishes, quest mobs etc) to the possible creatures that might come up on your daily XENOZOO BOUNTY, with 89 animals added, making the list 120 in total now!
New Jewelry Patterns:
Added a few design types to the jewelry skill:
666 rings_(horns) (YES, number 666 is horn rings. NO I honestly did not do that on purpose.)
667 finial_(horns)
668 headband_(jewelry)
669 twine_(horns)
670 headscarf
671 ornament_(branches)
672 ornaments_(branches)
Design character lengths:
After much debate, we decided to increase the character limit for some of the fields on tradeskill designs as follows:
Previous New
Appearance 50 60
Dropped 80 100
Examined Remains at 1500
1P Actions 240 300
3P Actions 240 300
1P Act_2 120 300
3P Act_2 120 300
We can't wait to see more of your great designs coming in! (And CA people remember to enter Zoe's Malice design contest!)
Design messaging tokens:
Added a couple of new nonbinary-friendly messaging tokens that can now be used in designs: $(he_has$) and $(he_is$). They are used straight after $(he$) to replace the verb accordingly. For example:
$+(caster$) peers at a candied vurbok egg like $(he$) $(he_is$) weighing up whether $(he$) $(he_has$) the stomach for it.
Would appear as:
"Damiel peers at a candied vurbok egg like he is weighing up whether he has the stomach for it."
or
"Soren peers at a candied vurbok egg like they are weighing up whether they have the stomach for it."
I have also updated the help file with the new info.
Scrapston Art Gallery:
Yep - I know I already announced this but it coincided with a bug that broke the spraycans. Spraycans are now fixed so you can go decorate the area accordingly! (Spoiler alert: It's not really an art gallery, it's the wall along the canal path known to locals as the 'Scrapston Art Gallery' because of all the graffiti. It has many, many walls.)
Dynasty accounts:
Thanks to the amazing Zersiax, Dynasty accounts no longer have a withdrawal limit. So players (with the accounts permission) can now withdraw however much they want from the coffers. Whee, time to save up for that battleship! (Or time to check your permissions, if you have trust issues!)
Trade Terminal Searching:
We're pleased to say that this feature is now working as intended!
The syntax is:
TT SEARCH <weapon/armor type> [MIN] [MAX]
You can ALSO use (light), (medium) and (heavy) to sort armor.
e.g. TT SEARCH (light) 65 75 - will return only light armor suitable for L65-L75
TT SEARCH gauntlet 30 40 - will return gauntlets suitable for L30-L40 etc.
Ship Customizations:
Eukelade made a tweak to ship customization which will allow for more color options going forward. Exciting!
Also fixed a load of bugs, sorted a load of ideas, made some items, and learned a lot about how coding is actually the devil.
Phew... I think that's it.
As always, any questions or whatever, please do send a message. If it's a general thing then please remember to use the BUG/TYPO/IDEA/ISSUE system though.
Have fun everyone!
Damiel

Re: Pathfinder for Nexus
In the event that cors-anywhere is down, there are a few workarounds that are pretty convenient once you've set up for the first time. I use Web Server for Chrome which is a user-friendly Chrome add-in that you can use to host the map locally:
- Download the map: www.starmourn.com/maps/map.xml
- Open Web Server add-in
- Point to directory map is in
- Click "Advanced Options" and click "Set CORS headers".
- Finally in nexus go to "_map_init", set map.useCors = false, and change URL to your local webserver URL.

Announcements post #169: Quick Additions.
From: World Engineer Senzei
Subject: Quick Additions.
Hi Everyone!
I had not announced some things that are live... so let me point out those real fast!
- Crews can now utilize CREW STATUS, which will show room and health information. This includes the room number, so hopefully people do not have to call their rooms so often.
- NEWBIECHALLENGE will now show how many days you have left. Let me know if this is wrong.
- ARTIFACT LIST OWNED [search] is now a thing. You can use this to search for artifacts you already own. I will look at expanding this into other similar lists.
More changes are coming! Some of them are partially implemented too.
Happy New Year Starmourners.
