I support their idea of creating a roleplay club for themselves. They will probably have to limit themselves to really only interacting with each other, since it seems they may want the outcomes to their plot lines already established. Such will probably not be respected by anyone outside of their group. So they need to easily be able to come together to play to their own wishes, and enjoy the game.
Me, I personally prefer to just play a character living in an organic world with circumstances developing as the game progresses. I am not really keen on the idea of being in what amounts to a play, since I prefer to use the mechanics of the game to help determine various outcomes of the stories that naturally arise for my character. So if my character is an avenging sort of guy who fights for the underdog, I prefer to make sure my character can actually back up his self-perceived image with mastery of the mechanics of PVP combat. If I wanted my character to be a business mogul, then I would want to use the games economic mechanics to actually corner the market I choose to focus on. Essentially, I prefer my roleplay to be supported by my character's actual capabilities, not by predetermined plot lines.
The uproar on this thread is seriously something to behold. I feel like I just advertised a running club at the gym and am now being accused of ageism and fat-shaming by people with knee/fitness issues because not everyone can or wants to run. What are you all being so defensive about?
You're doing it again.
This is why people have an issue with what you're talking about. You just linked people that have a different view from you with people with knee and fitness issues.
Your group is not a running club that you are not advertising to a bunch of "people with knee/fitness issues."
The group you just created is more like a speech club that welcomes everyone. Except...there's a wrong way and a right way to give a speech. And the topics that you can speak about are preemptively limited by the club leader/council. Also, the speeches are moderated by the same people.
We're in a game where roleplay is encouraged. We're in a game where both emergent roleplay and organized roleplay can happen because they're both roleplay. More importantly, one kind of roleplay is not better than the other one.
This whole discussion started from the third post when Cubey explained why he's not interested in this kind of service, but offered a constructive criticism about potential problems with the accusation rule.

This is why I do planned/organized RP only in freeform games, or games that are so small scale that absolutely everyone is on the same page, such as tabletop for 4-6 people. In games with mechanics such as Starmourn, there can be a large disparity between your character concept and your actual ingame capabilities.
For example if my character concept is "a master duelist" but I'm total ass at PvP then it just feels weird to me, even if I'm the best at roleplayed emote fights. It's better to start with something humble, a character who really wants to be good at fighting for one reason or another, and whether they become an actual master duelist or not is an emergent result of your ingame actions.
I would join an org like this, just to let others know that I am pro-RP. I'm pro-RP, organically, and won't plan out scenes OOC, but will do lots of RP be it paragraph or otherwise.
I think this tyoe of org will help foster RP in those who want it, since the game world is rather large and you might not find people around you to RP with, but I'm not the type to discuss RP OOCly.
I think people are complaining too much about this idea and throwing personal snipes at people. This can be a rather useful tool where people can tick boxes to show what sort of roleplay they are interested in, such as mercenary work, criminal, trading. Then you can meet up with them in game and begin interacting.
I generally just play my character and discover people's line of work through interacting, but there's nothing wrong with a database to help people find what it is they are looking for. The clan chat would also allow people to discuss plots and such, and anyone who is interested could chime in and offer their own input.
Just try be more helpful to each other and offer constructive criticism. The game isn't even out yet and people are at each other's throats.
Our "personal snipes" are a reaction, not a cause. If the OP thinks they can create a thread declaring what is "real" RP and what isn't, they better expect a response.
For real y'all? Websites devoted to creating roleplay matching aren't hard to find. There's no need to have an RP manager in charge of what is and isn't RP.
You create a profile and fill out your into:
- Vitals (name, age, race, gender, height, sex, etc.) - RP preferences (one-liners, sentences, para, multi-para) - Content you're open to (political, violent, sexy, miserable)

What's wrong with having this on Starmourn?

I love RP and all of my best memories of IRE games resolve around the situations that I was lucky enough to be a part of. Those moments when you just click with the other players and you forget you are sitting at a computer typing are pure magic.
In theory I like the idea of RP clans as both a way to signal your interest and as a way to connect with other players but in practice I never enjoy them. The more OOC interaction I have with people the less I find myself enjoying the game. Even if the OOC interactions are about RP it just kills the magic for me.
So this time around I made a conscious choice to have my OOC presence be semi-anonymous and I will try to keep that magic alive as long as possible.
In addition to the obvious consent and god mode rules I tend to follow a lose "give the other person a turn" rule. This does not always mean you trade speech or emotes 1-1 but in general I deliberately (and patiently) wait a long time after my action before I do another to make sure the other person has a chance to respond. Typing out that perfect emote only to spot a typo or having to pause to look up a help file for the correct spelling of a name can take some time and it is frustrating if the other player is just continuing on.
Adding to that I also try my best to end my action with a hook for the other player. Monologuing does not just get villains killed it also can be very boring for the other players. The best RP allows your partner(s) to share the scene with you. Make comments or take actions that allow the other player to get involved. There are no hard and fast rules for this but I promise if you work on it you will be rewarded.
I mean, to you that's roleplaying but to me it isn't.
I'm very over the outrage. Starmourn is bigger than anyone predicted. It's massive. It's big enough that people have to wait in line to complete their quests, and it's certainly big enough to accommodate a wide variety of players with different attitudes towards RP, including what does and doesn't constitute RP for them.
Because notice I said, 'to me'.
If your belief is that anything and everything that happens in Starmourn is RP as long as it isn't explicitly OOC, well congratulations, you will have a very easy time finding RP partners and are likely already having fun with all the RP you could ever want for exchanged over FT and canned emotes during your bashing/PvP excursions.
If it isn't, then maybe you need extra help finding RP partners, and this is the clan for you. Fin. Bluntly, I don't actually care what anyone else thinks about this; I care to offer those who need/want it a community to find their specialist RP groove in. If that isn't you, then great, this thread isn't aimed at you, this clan isn't aimed at you, and you can be on your merry way doing whatever else the immeasurably vast world of Starmourn has to offer you. Which happily, is lots. My opinion on RP shouldn't affect you either. You aren't missing out on anything by me having opinions about your RP or lack thereof. There are literally hundreds of other players for you to interact with. You can go about your business pretending that I and this clan don't/won't exist.
Regarding the clan itself and how to join, for those who've expressed an interest, I'll post an update once myself and those who've offered to help have the requisite marks to found it. It will be a public clan that you don't need to be invited into, but can induct yourself into using a command to join. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking anyone's marks until I myself can contribute a substantial amount, so also to those who've offered to help: A ) Thank you B ) I'll update you when we've got a good marks pool going.

This dismissive and borderline condescending attitude isn't really helping your case. I've roleplayed plenty without resorting to paragraph-form EMOTEs, thank you.

My case? What part of 'I don't care' wasn't clear?
If I have a case that's to be judged, may it be done elsewhere in private, or else silently.
