Re: Expectations
Lots of booze...bairloch said:It has become very clear reading these forums that the playerbase has wildly differing expectations. How, exactly, do the devs handle this? Do they just stick to their vision, making minor changes based on player feedback that is constantly contradicting itself? Or do they try to please a fickle and fluctuating "ideal" that exists for fractions of a second?
I'm just glad it isn't my job.

Call and Referendum syntax very similar, but not the same
Hey there!
Just thought I'd put this out here in case it's been missed - FACTION CALL SHOW 19 works but FACTION REFERENDUM SHOW 19 does not. Can we please get these commands utilized so one only needs to change "Call" and "referendum"? It's confusing to have these commands have the last two arguments backwards. (And this goes for voting and such as well, they're all opposite each other)

This is an amazing idea, and we're going to do it. It's Open Beta, so a little retcon never hurt anyone. Expect to see this soon.Ziazapojira said:

So, a while back, I went through the long process of compiling all options for every race (and gender, in most cases, with non-binary not receiving the same amount of love due to a general sameness of all the races save Amaians and Shen). It's time I open it up to you people who might be looking to create a character, but don't know what options are offered to you physically at the very start! They're listed below in quotes for easy reading, in the same order as they're offered to you on the CG screen. Quick Nanoseer QoL Changes and Suggestions
I've seen a few threads like these that don't address massive overhauls or class balance on a larger scale, but smaller things that make a big difference to player experience.
- Increase Void Soothe ticks a bit more.
- Tell us when channels like suffocate are interrupted.
- Remove Affinity...
- Make Speedup/Slowdown one skill.
- A Flex ability which allows casting out of the correct channel.
- Distribution should either protect Nanoseers or not share the damage to them.
- Reduce Cooldowns across the board.
- Interdict could afford to lose a minute from the timer, if not more.
- Analyze could afford to have a lower cooldown.
- Analyze is not Brit friendly. Please. Make it respond to analyse too.
- Make Mindswap not cure an affliction if it swaps to the same one.
- Alternatively, make Mindswap not swap to existing afflictions.
- Scoundrel can pick some of the best afflictions out of every system and apply them far easier than us, why are Nanoseers, often called an affliction class to excuse our poor damage, subpar at applying afflictions?
- Allow us to pick afflictions with Confound or please, please make it smart. Our best killpath relies on us having different afflictions. Mindswap literally cures enemies, confound is unreliable.
- Why does distract need 3 afflictions AND cure one? Please change this.

Re: Tradeskills
Tecton said that he has some tradeskills fleshed out that aren't going to be coming out or over 6 months. I'm excited to hear what they are.
Otherwise Cuisine or Fashion.
I'm slightly confused by the compounded cost of actually creating things. You can submit about 6 designs before going into the region of 100k marks.
For people wanting to go heavily into crafting without bankrupting their customers or spending days on end bashing, this makes things extremely difficult. This way of doing things seems so bizarrely thought out.
Suggestions which have come up before:
Player run crafting approvals, perhaps an administrative clan?
Reduce the design cost, if not eliminate it, but limit how many designs one can have for approval to 1 at a time?
Allow people to license their stuff out for a price that they choose?

Re: Hacking
Probe shows you if it's medium or easy or hard, AFAIK. There does seem to be a range within each of those ranks in terms of actual difficulty that's kinda RNG. You can get screwed by choice of direction and location of array and collection of ICE.Yalau said:I like it as well and can confirm that there are places that terminals unlock that aren't normally accessible. One thing I'd like to know though is how do you know the difficulty of a grid? Prior to entrance or while you're there? Based on IkC strength?
Hunting vs other IRE games
As somebody that's done the grind to max level in a different IRE game, my first impression is that I quite like the overall system that this game has. Allowing afflictions on pve opponents opens up options (even if there's a 'most efficient' combo) while also helping to bridge the gap a little bit better between pve and pvp. Wetwiring being passive regen/curing with some (class based) active healing abilities that have a cooldown provides a fresh dynamic to the old "guzzle elixirs non-stop as an extra button to press/automate." Unsure how that'll shake out on the pvp front, but I imagine that the actual decisions/second that players make (once all the stuff that generally got automated is ignored) will still be comparable. Should be interesting if/when players find a way to break wetwiring, much like finding holes in a particular person's curing system.
I do wish that there was better feedback about afflictions rather than "it might've done something, maybe." Long term goals, I suppose. It seems that grouping is viable, too. It's been quite awhile so I'm unsure about the state of things in the other MUDs, but when I played it was often better to solo because of the xp split + running out of stuff to kill in an area because you killed it too fast with a group (the latter just being a matter of available areas, rather than an issue with grouping). Duos sometimes made sense, but were uncommon.
Add in the spaceship stuff and it overall seems like an ambitious yet smart design.
I know Nexus isn't Starmourn specific, but it definitely has some cool additions from when I last used it years ago. Being able to tab (or click) target removes quite a bit of clunkiness, and other clickable things (lifts, etc) are neat as well.

Re: Experience Cap
If you remove the xp cap, when they increase level cap they're going to jump directly to the next level cap?
I mean, they sprinted to the top then get to get on a treadmill at the finish line to rack up a head start at the next race. Not sure that that will help the sentiment that it was already too easy to get to max as it is.
I don't know of any MMOs that let you grind up extra xp for the next expansion. They may be out there, I just don't know. If you're looking to grind, grind for gear... grind the ship system or hacking. Grind the economy and buy yourself a superhauler while the rest of us fly our mosquitoes.
I'm sorry if I don't sound like I have any sympathy. I don't.
