Re: Player Artwork/Designs?
Yay!! Another W'hoorn! Also, Orrin's sister is called Nimue and is a scoundrel. Is this some kinda Arthurian-named w'hoorn scoundrel invasion? I feel like I should make Guinevere.
Orrin was actually named after a knight, too. Maybe w'hoorn just have a kinda paladin thing going? 😂

Akaxi said:First, sorry for the thread resurrection!
I haven't been involved in any IRE MUDs since MKO shut down, but I was feeling nostalgic today and thought I'd skim the other IRE forums to see some of the old threads discussing MKO's final days. I stumbled across this thread in the forum search and because my character was mentioned I thought I'd respond to say it warms my heart to be remembered so fondly. So, thanks, @Kestrel!
And while I'm at it I'll say hello to any other MKO vets who remember Akaxi or my admin name, Ka-hooli. I hope everyone is enjoying Starmourn!
Good to see you around, Akaxi! Don't be a stranger now, we'd love to have you around! (This is your contemporary Prandur saying hi)

Announcements post #113: Early May.
From: Ilyos, the Arbiter
Subject: Early May.
Greetings Starmourners,
(I'm always late with announcements on month rollover, so decided to surprise you with an early one, hah!)
During the past month we saw our talent system released, we saw our first Xenohunt and we've hunted an abundance of new, powerful monsters that began roaming around the Sector (Fantom Labs still denies any involvement in the matter). Basically a lot of things to do on the ground. So this May we'd like to focus a bit on space, ships and things to do among the stars. It's been a while since we gave space some some proper love and care, so we're going to do just that.
We're going to tackle %6Station Missions% first.
Station Missions currently offer only commodity runs in exchange for station bonuses. We'd like to expand this system and transition it into a more generic "Jobs" list that an intrepid captain might take from a Station. There'll be a number of new types of missions released over the course of the month ( most likely one type at a time so we can better see if they work properly).
- First up, the current commodity type missions will no longer require that you hunt down an item in a shop somewhere in the world. They'll focus solely on the commodities and goods. Those spare parts will find themselves useful somewhere else. This will only apply to missions that will generate from now on. Those that already exist in the system will still require the items
- A new mission type is available: %6Passengers%! There'll be people on the three factional stations that want to get to other stations in the Sector and, for various reasons, don't use any of the standard transportation options (HINT: it's because other people are out to get them). You may opt to take these people on your ship and ferry them to their desired location. Simple, right? Nothing ominous or dangerous about it, clearly. Your rewards will be marks and captaincy xp and this aims to be a system aimed at those of lower and mid levels in captaincy.
There's a new syntax to help with this, %7STATION MISSION <ID> UNDERTAKE%. You may only undertake one passenger mission at a time and they aren't faction locked (so, if you're a member of Scatterhome or simply factionless, you may pick up a passenger from Danica or the Crossings if you so wish). These missions appear alongside all other missions on %7STATION MISSION LIST% and you may filter by mission type now ( for example %7STATION MISSION LIST PASSENGER% )
Information on our monthly promo will come tomorrow, on the 1st of May proper! (it will have ship stuff and awesome new things)

Re: Ship building - a newbie's insight
There's no such thing as a silly idea.*
Well, to start: If I remember right, this getting looked at, and is on the to do list. Somewhere between playable Bushraki and a profession to rival Metal Gear, maybe. (I kid)

Expense not matching the performance of the parts:
I've always viewed this as a kind of "I/My character knows parts well, and isn't going to throw money away" versus "Shut up and take my money. It's expensive, and I want it because of that price tag alone."
Probably not everyone is going to play that way cause it's a surefire way to wind up flying a Faberge egg that has all the acceleration of a glacier moving uphill. There is a min-maxer in all of us.
Segwaying cleanly into my next early-morning stream-of-consciousness thought: ship weight class meaning something. My pipe dream idea?

Power to weight ratios for each class, dictated by the power of your engine versus the combined weight of everything else, plus a few additional tweaks (shield strength versus hull strength, for example).
Light - Fast in every sense. Fast acceleration, fast turning, fast stopping, fast target acquisition, fast shield recharge. What it lacks in however is hull strength, drone response/repair effectiveness, weapon power.
Standard - Vanilla, and the base of what every ship class is built around. The 'family friendly' build.
Heavy - The Chungus of the ship types. Slow acceleration, slow turning, slow stopping. Normal target acquisition. Slow shield recharge. Upside: A hull that could block a supernova, massive drone response/repair effectiveness, and weapons powerful enough to blast craters into planets (not Death Star powerful, but capable of bombardment from low orbit).

So my silly pipe dream for ships a light interceptor would be the fastest acceleration and a bitch to actually hit for anyone above maybe Corvette class, but one solid hit to your hull and you're space dust (as it should be), and a heavy battleship would be capable of swimming on the surface of stars for fun and enjoyment (extreme case, do not attempt without a lifeguard present).
Shipmodding, that subject of rampant speculation on the Discord when someone brings it up in monthly discussions would be part method by which to tweak your ships shortcomings slightly back to standard OR to supercharge certain aspects of your structure.
Or add even more rooms cause apparently some people want to fly hotels around.

Elgan wanted for RP but also..
Hi folks,
I'm fairly new to the game but not new to roleplaying or IRE games. I've been around since 2002 and I've played across a vast array of roleplaying games and I like to think I'm a bit good at it.
What I'm looking for is people who want to contribute to a company that my character Vohl is creating.
The idea is that (I know, probably cheese) Vohl has for (undisclosed reasons) been forced to move to Scatterhome. He'll never reveal the exact details but he'll often tell stories of vague mishaps, the details usually different from person to person depending on his angle but the truth remains that SOMETHING has unseated him from his home planet and forced him to start over in Scatterhome.
He's now trying to hire an all-Elgan crew and form a legitimate company. This would really suit people who enjoy rp'ing as traders, con-artists, sleazers, but above all who're enamoured with the Elgan rp and who're willing to help me really make it shine according to what lore we have. Note: to work for Vohl you need to be Elgan.
The end-goal isn't necessarily to 'win' at Starmourn so if people are not very wise on trading or perhaps more interested in 'bashing' I won't mind. What I'm looking for primarily is good solid roleplay with people who can think outside of the game mechanics and create rp in the spaces between where the props might only exist in emotes and the mechanisms of the rp might also only exist in the shared consensual imagination of those involved. Think for example - something that can't physically be bought or sold or a service like 'matchmaker dating agency' where it's entirely based on RP. That's the kind of innovative thinkers I'm keen to meet and to add to my Elgan stable.
I'm ALSO looking for people who're interested in interacting with above - and I'm open to staging ideas but also improv - less interested in PVP or 'surprise' conflict - so if you want to create some fun drama, please by all means pitch an idea to me, but if you're looking for something that doesn't involve conflict, I'm happy to improv with you as well as stage ideas OOCly for fun storylines.
DISCLAIMER: I do know that conflict will find me regardless of the above gentleman's agreement and I don't plan on crying foul but please be aware that the above is intended to attract what I'm looking for and isn't an exhaustive list or rules of engagement.

I'll hop on that bandwagon. You guys have been great! I'm really enjoying learning my way around, so thanks.

Re: Iron Realms Open Source Mudlet GUI
Sorta*
*: I finally finished my degree earlier this month, and once things slow down around the house a bit (like that'll ever happen, but a guy can dream!) I'm going to start making and pushing changes to this again to get it rolling along. So keep an eye out

Re: Good Vibrations!
Yo! Longtime fan of IRE games, played Achaea for a couple years, but just came into Starmourn as of this past week, and I'm loving it (also ideal because I got laid off due to corona and haven't shit to do). And, I agree with the person above me, you guys are awesome, such a neat and helpful community! :proud:

Re: IC/OOC divide
I might add I've spent time in games of all levels of rp enforcement (those who recognise the forum name will know what I mean ) and it means a lot to me the experience I've had so far.
Also because I don't want to write a separate post - the storyline mission is really great and helps a lot to create that atmosphere as people come into the game. My only suggestion would be to add some extra versions for each class because I thought I was seeing a scoundrel only storyline and it fit so well. Anyway, thanks again!
