NEXUS: Muliple Choice Aliases Examples
Figure I'd put this out there cause it took me forever to remember how to do it. Disclaimer: I'm not a coder. These aliases are mainly how I roll. Anyway. Here's an example using:
OBLIVION CHANNEL [EMPYREAL]
so oct does oblivion channel traveller and so forth... Can be adapted to a variety of things. Like infecting targets while hacking.
where inff does infect firewall, infa does infect antivirus. etc...
OBLIVION CHANNEL [EMPYREAL]
alias text: ^oc(a|c|p|s|t)$
matching type: reg expression
then under actions:
execute script:
var empyreal = {
matching type: reg expression
then under actions:
execute script:
var empyreal = {
a: "architect",
c: "conqueror",
p: "progenitor",
s: "sunderer",
t: "traveller"}
send_command("oblivion channel " + empyreal[args[1]])
so oct does oblivion channel traveller and so forth... Can be adapted to a variety of things. Like infecting targets while hacking.
alias text: ^inf(a|f|g|h|s|)$
matching type: reg expression
execute script:
matching type: reg expression
execute script:
var ices = {
a: "antivirus",
f: "firewall",
g: "glitch",
h: "honeypot",
s: "scanner"
}
send_command("infect " + ices[args[1]])
where inff does infect firewall, infa does infect antivirus. etc...

Re: Roleplay & You
My perspective (others may differ) is that there's a difference between 'staying IC' and 'roleplaying'. One is active, the other is passive. To me staying IC is doing things like typing nod person when someone passes you the city square, chuckle when they say something funny, and communicating basic game stuff on IC channels without breaking immersion by referring to your internet/laptop/smartphone/MUD client. (Although to be honest, Starmourn probably does have an IC internet and phones, so I don't know how that all will work out.)Jerom said:I'm having trouble seeing a difference between option 2 and 3, but I guess option 3 is the closest to me. I have nothing against RP but frankly, I suck at it. My characters always end up having the same personality as me.
Whereas roleplaying is more about 'playing a role', i.e., crafting a persona distinct and separate from your own to create a story for them which generally requires some original effort to write about their body language, vocal tone and so on rather than relying on preset emotes and the say command.
Some people might disagree with my views but coming from very RP-focused environments, I find the general consensus to be that roleplay in text-based environments is an exercise in creative writing, hence the distinction for me between RP (active, requires writing) vs. staying IC (passive, can rely on command input or short sentences). It could also be viewed on a scale of heavy vs. light RP.

Shen Dynasty — Celestine Ascendancy
Hello.
I'm looking to found a Shen familial dynasty within the Celestine Ascendancy. I have a fairly concrete concept in my head, including a name, but there's still a lot of room for lore-building to flesh it out in accordance with any other characters who may wish to join.
The main premise is that this dynasty once controlled a proud, nepotistic corporate empire, a keiretsu, until the family fell prey to its own greed, infighting, power hunger and of course, the Angel's Revolution. The only members of this Dynasty who survived are those who were willing to compromise their dignity and ally with the Guardians by betraying their own family. They may have had various reasons for doing so, ranging from having envied and coveted their siblings' wealth and positions within the Dynasty/keiretsu, to having genuinely believed in the Guardians' social justice cause, to having believed the success of their keiretsu was no longer sustainable under a system of economic inequality. All that matters is at the end of the day, they betrayed, killed and stole from members of their own family.
I don't want to share too many details about what I have in mind on the public forums, but if anyone else is interested in playing a Shen and likes the basic premise, send me a message.
In the beginning I would like for this Dynasty to be exclusively comprised of Shen who are related by blood. Over time, I anticipate that as player characters get married and have babies or just choose to adopt people, we may branch out to include non-Shen and non-blood relations.
If you're planning to play a Shen somewhere other than the Celestine Ascendancy, please don't hesitate to express an interest, either. There are many plausible explanations for why your character may have ended up elsewhere, for example perhaps they fled the 'country' (so to speak) when the Dynasty/keiretsu collapsed, or maybe they're a black sheep or something else. All of this is completely fine to my mind.
This Dynasty is intended to be flexible and accommodate a wide variety of character concepts. You don't have to share common ideals or have the same goals. There is one firm requirement however and that's that you be interested in story-driven, emote-based RP. Doesn't have to be paragraphs for hours on end, doesn't have to be a daily thing, and if you're more interested in PvP/bashing/exploring that's fine too; only requirement is that at least some of the time you're down to RP and that you make liberal use of the emote command to do so. You should also strive to familiarise yourself with the lore and do your best to support rather than subvert the theme. (E.g., no snowflake meat-eaters please.)
A healthy degree of IC/OOC separation is recommended because as you may infer from aspects the Dynasty's history, betrayal and skullduggery are mainstays of the Dynasty's story — meaning that no matter how much I love RPing with you, and approve of you OOCly, our characters may not like each other. Hating your brother/sister/mother in this family is a-okay and would make perfect sense. This is meant to be a dysfunctional family. Think Game of Thrones-style shenanigans. If conflict and tension filled stories are your jam, this is the fam for you! If you're just looking for a supportive group that will help you get started then it may not be.

Re: The Ideas Thread
Great ideas! Keep em coming.
Just because it was super-easy, there's now 2x as many easy incursions at any one time (well, next time it spawns them). They are -supposed- to despawn when you clear them, and it was working previously. I'll take a look.

Re: Just an autopilot feedback thingie...
Space is curved, so naturally you aren't going in a straight line. We're just trying to simulate that.Shinonome said:Dangers are one thing, I don't mind manually flying around those... but once it's a big stretch of empty black, would be nice if it could go in a straight line...
(I joke, that's definitely not right.)

Re: Feedback: Starmourn needs Descriptive Space Maps
I have to say, personally, that I love the way space looks and works. Well done on that, admin. I can't even imagine the spam of thousands of descriptive rooms flying by me at the pace of several rooms per second...Also, no matter how creative someone might be, how many ways can you describe the inky blackness of space and the same stars from a slightly different position? Then I think of the time it would take to describe those thousands of rooms...

Little Things
Because this little discovery made my day, I figured we could all use a thread to share those little things about Starmourn that make us happy.
Starmourn said:A cheerful celebrant stretches his face into a broad grin.A cheerful celebrant says to you, "Welcome, welcome! Are you here to get hitched, space traveler?"1A cheerful celebrant says to you, "Marriage across the sector is regarded as a free and open union of hearts. It can be a private joining between two intimate partners, or a sprawling family of lovers - most governments and corporations will recognize marriages containing up to four legal spouses."A cheerful celebrant says to you, "I've heard tell of some distant, long-ago civilizations where things like gender and race were considered in marriage. How old-fashioned! Here in this sector, all can love whoever they choose to love."
