Looking for a Celestine Ascendancy Storyteller!
Do you like corporations? Poverty? Tall buildings? Slushies?
Then we may have a role for you!
The Starmourn team currently has an opening for a new Celestine Ascendancy Storyteller, and we are looking for someone with enthusiasm and passion to inject some energy into the leadership of this faction. Storytellers are meant, first and foremost, to drive player stories in an individual faction, and take the lead on its creative direction. They have a great deal of freedom, and how they do such a thing is up to them and the players under their jurisdiction - with guidance from Senior Staff!
If you have good communication skills, the ability to finish what you start, and think you're up for being an active member of our volunteers, please consider sending in an application to eukelade@starmourn.com with answers to the following questions.
-----------------------
-----------------------
1. Why do you want to be a Storyteller?
2. How much time do you think you will be able to contribute to the game in a normal week?
3. What do you think you will bring to the game?
4. What are your expectations for being a Storyteller?
5. What three things would you change about Starmourn?
6. How would you describe yourself in online interactions?
7. What's your mud experience like?
8. What do you think your most valuable contribution to Starmourn has been, thus far?
9. What's your favorite feature of Starmourn, and why?
-----------------------
-----------------------
Looking forward to hearing from you!
You have until 11:59pm on Wednesday, August 21st to apply.

Re: Gimme your tunez!
Beltboyz
Genre: Cratercore (Belter folk)
An all-male, all-human band, Beltboyz are a trio of young, attractive scoundrels from the Belt, known for their rough, gruff image and ultraviolent repertoire. Indeed, when they aren't busy strumming their low, melancholy and moody shows to a quiet crowd over at Gravity, they're quite well-known in the criminal underworld, with rumoured ties to murky-white-collar Bodean and the Ishbi Casino. They're sometimes looked down upon by more well regarded, higher-brow musicians, especially beyond the Belt, and it's often whispered that their undeserved fame is bought and paid for. Of course, no one ever dares say this to their scarred-up lead singer's face. They have an ugly tendency to engage in petty, swearing fuelled commsphere feuds with other celebrated artists in the middle of the night, sometimes alienating fans and generating holomag controversy. One of their most famous incidents was when their frontrunner insulted the Shentones' frontrunner's dress, calling her "a blood-sucking drakkafly in a shiny cocoon".
Song list:
Sweet Home Whittler's Hollow
Mood: Nostalgic
Wayward Zhu
Mood: Nostalgic
Hookmaw Heart
Mood: Moody
Said My P.I.E.C.E
Mood: Grit
The Night She Broke Gravity
Mood: Sexy

Re: Starmourn on the Titans of Text
Listed to this while walking the dog the other night. Nice job. It was interesting hearing you both talk about your experiences. And, your love of the game really came through. We players think you both rock as well. The storytellers too.
I also listened to the episode discussing the Evennia engine, cause one of these days I still plan to make my own game, and I've played with Evennia a little. I just wish it had a GUI.

Re: Kinetic battery buffs to batch size and damage vs. organics would alleviate new pilot problems
I'm hesitant for new players to have to depend on the largesse of friends/patron/faction. If only 20% of the new players stick around after getting a loan/whatever from a faction for a corvette, those funds/willingness to do so are going to dry up pretty quick.
Perhaps a system where after X incursions/asteroids refined/gas scooped/combination of those and captaincy levels, a player is provided with credit in the shipforge system that's equivalent to the cost of kitting out a basic corvette. Said credit can -only- be used for a ship purchase, not supplies or anything similar.
Granted, not being an IRE coder, I don't know how feasible such a system would be. But I figure worst case scenario, those who're interested in getting into the space game would have a method of advancing beyond that starter state that's better than taking a loss, or maybe clearing 2k credits for the amount of work done a la earlier in the thread.
Edit: That being said, I have no skin in the game. Got my corvette from bashing, didn't take all that long.

Re: What's the state of the different factions? And other questions.
Song is, I'd like to think, very organized. We have:
I haven't played in Celestine regularly, but from my alt, I've gathered that they have:
Scatterhome is, true to form, the most disorganized bunch. However, they still have:
- a favour and advancement system in place (the medal system)
- rewards and credit sales
- regular writing projects (the Klaxon Horn and the Tourism Travel Guides, as well as Case Studies [admittedly, less formed than the first two])
- a lot of help files, from newbie guides to hunting guides and information on industry, hacking, piloting, etc.
- seasoned players who have, more or less, been continuously active since launch
- --- incredibly stable, and while this is very good, it also means it can feel a bit static
I haven't played in Celestine regularly, but from my alt, I've gathered that they have:
- an advancement system
- a reward system (true to late capitalist form)
- a newbie assistance program
- a load of helpfiles which are also interesting because they have advertisments (again, capitalism)
- highly compartmentalized groups (Coriolis Studios, AICo, LOB, III...I'm not even close to being familiar with them all!)
- --- least populated faction; on the other hand, this means you can easily get recognized if you put in a bit of effort
Scatterhome is, true to form, the most disorganized bunch. However, they still have:
- a lot of helpfiles; I even get some of my ideas here
- a LOT of people, from newbies to veterans
- --- you get left on your own, which often means that newbies don't get a lot of suppport (but newbie assistance is improving!)

Re: If you were a newbie again...
- Bash a little to get comfortable with the game
- Involve myself heavily into the RP of faction, or kickstart it again if I find it lacking
I see this is what most people would do if they started over and it's what I'd do. (Yes, I used to play the game as well and I bashed to 75 before I involved myself too heavily in RP)

Re: If you were a newbie again...
Exactly as I am doing, assuming I had all the same help still.
Get to level 20, get a trade, then sit my fat tree ass on an object and design weird cheesecakes and meringues.
Re: Really want to like this game but...
The main draw of these games and MUDs in general is not necessarily the PvE, or even the PvP, but the community and the fun you have being around other players.
I try not to take a WoW approach or one where I need to achieve certain goals to feel complete in Starmourn, I just hang out with the other funny and brilliant players and occasionally get up to being productive in some capacity.
