Re: What other MUDS have you played?
I started playing a MUD-type game in the early 90s via local BBS. I have no idea what iit was called, but it was a space MUD with planet/resource development and space combat. The first game I remember the -name- of was Materia Magica. From there to Threshold Wandered in Imperian during the Harker heyday but it didn't stick. Came back a year or so later and it stuck. I've tried every IRE game, spent more time in Aetolia than any of the others. Played Lithmeria and wish the producer didn't drive that into a ditch. Played Sindome briefly. Love the concept but it takes entirely too much effort to get established for an adult with a family, a full-time job, and volunteer work to make it what I want out of it.
I've dabbled in a bunch of other MUD/MUSH/MUX games in an effort to recapture the RP I miss from the early days of playing Imperian, but so far haven't found a home.
Sci-fi is DEFINITELY my jam and I asked for one in the very first town hall Avasyu/Jeremy held in Imperian I attended. I've been waiting a decade for this game.
I am excite.
Especially since so much effort is being made towards developing the lore.

100% not an IRE noob and had absolutely no idea what the OP was talking about until clarification post. Unnecessary aggression is unnecessary.TNA said:LOL, noobs to IRE I see.

Re: PVE
One thing that we're doing, that I mentioned in another post, is we've removed the differentiation between mobs/denizens and other players. You'll be able to use all of your skills on them (*). This will give you a far wider toolset to work with than our other games, which only have a couple of abilities that you can use.
(*) You won't be able to instakill mobs in most (but some) situations

Screw the rules, I want laser swords! And while we're at it, laser chainsaws!Aurelius said:There won't be laser swords, specifically, because the House of Mouse is notoriously lawsuit-happy and I don't want to risk it.

Theft
How much are we going to welcome it, here? IRE games run across the entire spectrum. In Achaea, when you're barely starting to get settled in the game people will steal the worthless newbie clothes off your back just for the lulz. In Lusternia on the other hand, the entire playerbase will grief a thief to dust once discovered. Both can be viewed as pretty extreme, and both obviously have their draws. Both are allowed, or not, entirely by player culture, regardless of what the mechanics of the game do or do not allow.
Space piracy is obviously going to be appealing to some, so how are we going to deal with it? Is everything in your ship fair game? Will any safeguards be in place so you as a player don't lose everything on the whim of some random internet stranger? "Lrn2Code" works for some people as a solution, but it drives others away. MUDs are hard enough to get into before requiring that you have to learn how to script, too, just to be able to get anywhere.
Surely there's a happy middle ground somewhere, so I'm curious if we can speculate what that might look like.

Re: Time!
Mostly similar, we're locking in days of the month to real-life time, so the 16th of the month is 1600 gmt, so makes it a lot easier to coordinate in- and out-of game times

Re: Lore Question: Kith Sensitivity
Some people can use kith, some can't. Sometimes kith-use may manifest later in life. Sometimes it may disappear. Some races are more amenable to kith use, some, like the Bushraki, have absolutely no command over kith. I've got a solid (heh, well, you know, solid as in sci-fi or fantasy type 'solid') reason for why that's the case with Bushraki, but I don't intend to reveal that for years. Gotta have mysteries and some things are better not explained! See midichlorians....
