I believe it's been stated that it's not, and I'm really glad.Laxnarl said:Wonder if it's going to be something like what we have in Lusternia with Aetherships.

Re: Theft
There is indeed a fine line between 'theft as profit' and 'theft as griefing' especially in the early days when Marks will be scarce. (The currency.)
I suppose it'd be similar to EVE Online - perhaps people would be more willing to hand over their stuff when you ask if you're renowned for only taking that and nothing else - to be refused is to be blasted into oblivion. 'Haha, I have bested you, now give me 500 Marks or I'll blow you up and all your stuff up and inconvenience you greatly' is probably how I'd do it.
Because the goal isn't really 'get all their stuff,' it's 'revel in the feeling of making people submit to you', so the amount just has to be enough to be a minor inconvenience that people would dislike paying, just to feed the ego rush of *actually being able to hold people up and have them pay.*

Re: The State of PK (and a couple other questions)
Midkemia was really the only IRE that I had extensive PvP experience with and as it evolved, it slowly became more and more necessary to use scripts in order to properly compete. It wasn't like that at the start - only a few people had functioning systems and everyone else pretty much competed on ability and skill knowledge. This changed as more and more skills and afflictions were inevitably added.
You're never going to be able to make a game like this "bot-proof", but what you can do is lower the entry barrier enough so that it doesn't require a metric shitton of scripting ability to be able to participate at the low end as well as the high end.

Re: How would you prefer starship rooms worked?
I'll make sure that's one of the options for you!zacc said:Yeah, but then you get grease and crumbs all over the reactor/core/drive/whateverpowersthatthing.
Should the game go the fixed room titles route, will there be starship restrooms? Sci-fi is seriously lacking in fully functional restrooms. I'm not convinced that people of the future are poop-free. (Star Trek gets a pass... transporter technology and such.)

Re: How will the arts and academia work within Starmourn?
We've got lots of tools to support these aspects of gameplay. You'll find that our "arts" system on-par with Achaea and our other Iron Realms games, including comprehensive emoting options, through to custom item creation tradeskills, and many more!Riado said:By ‘Arts’ I mean: Can you create (i.e. write) within Starmourn? When I say create, I refer to things like, but not restricted exclusively to, the creation of paintings, and the creation of musical, theatrical or ritual performances with the EMO command?
By ‘Academia’ I mean: Will you be able to RP a ‘scholar’ character, and publish academic literature/research like in Achaea’s journals and library system?
I began playing Achaea in 1998 and continued to play it heavily for a decade afterwards, then on and off for another five years after that. The ability to be creative within Achaea’s communal and fully realised RP environment was what drew me back again and again.
I know many players look down on this sort of game playing style, but this was the key reason I played Achaea for so long. I’m a writer first and a gamer second, basically 😊
Books though, they are so last millennium! We use datashards for storing written works, which you can share with others for limited or indefinite amounts of time, and cities will have the option to have a central datastore where they can collect datashards for membership viewing.

Re: PVE
That is HUGE!!Tecton said:One thing that we're doing, that I mentioned in another post, is we've removed the differentiation between mobs/denizens and other players. You'll be able to use all of your skills on them (*). This will give you a far wider toolset to work with than our other games, which only have a couple of abilities that you can use.
(*) You won't be able to instakill mobs in most (but some) situations

Re: Celestine Ascendancy
I find when playing a MUD it takes me quite a while to learn the lay of the land, so I generally prefer to start at the bottom of the scrap-pile but aspire high. As such I'll probably be playing a bit of a nobody Shen or one who has fallen from grace and seeks to move on upwards. Something of a thug with lordly aspirations most likely... The kind of person @Villanox might employ as a henchman.
My experience is in Cyberpunk RP with a strong rich vs poor theme throughout and I love that theme, so the Celestine Ascendancy is where I'll be starting out.

Re: Influencing/Non-mass-murdery ways to level up
I'd love an "information broker" type of "trade" skill based around hacking. Kind of like what Neo was up to at the beginning of the Matrix, but less... cinematic.

Re: 5th Class - the Fury!
Stances just control what abilities and transitions are available. So say if we were using "real life martial arts" terms, you could do something like...
Start in a standing/neutral stance, you do a roundhouse kick, which puts you in a spinning stance. While spinning you could:
a) Spinning backfist (which returns you to a neutral stance)
b) Drop down and sweep the legs out (putting you in a crouched stance)
c) Leap and do a flying spinning heel kick (putting you into a jumping stance)
If you pick the crouched stance, you could
a) Do an uppercut (which returns you to neutral)
b) Lunge and tackle them around the waist (putting you prone)
c) Do some matrix-like backflip kick to the face (putting you into a jumping stance)
And so on and so forth for jumping, prone, and many other possible stance options. Each ability has a stance requirement and will transition you to another stance. So the matrix-like backflip kick to the face, you can only do it while you're crouching, and then it transitions you to jumping. Then you'll have 3 -4 other abilities available that are available only while jumping.
I hope this helps explain how the stances and abilities work.
