Re: Theft
And sometimes pirates are just idiots. Had a guy in Elite demand I drop 30 units of cargo when my ship only held 12. He kept yelling at me to drop the rest or I'd get blown up. Eventually I rammed my ship into him just to shut him up. I blew up, but at least I didn't have to deal with him anymore.
The point? Well, when you're dealing with people, all the planning goes out the window. I wish the devs the best on balancing this.

Re: Small tales with character.
I have no idea if this is how it's supposed to work, but the story sort of just popped into my head and I thought I'd write it out anyway. Enjoy!

"So, what have you been up to?" The voice sounds quite dull when you think about it, as if the person is not really interested in the answer, just wanting to make small talk.
"Me?" Cen asks, seemingly broken out of reveries. "Um, practicing, tinkering. You know, trying to make sure my glo- Owww!" Her attempt at speaking is interrupted by a yelp of pain, and it becomes evident why the man at her side so suddenly decided to start talking. Having been working for some time on the iriil tattoo on her arm, he has reached a more crucial area, filled with nerves and prone to be a bit more tender.
When glancing over, she is met with a slight grin and an amused gleam in the eyes of her tattoo artist. He doesn't even bother with apologies, but continues his work. "Blast it, man!" she hisses through clenched teeth, fingers curling around the edges of the armrest. "Wouldn't it have been better to warn me?"
"What fun would that have been?" he asks matter-of-factly, pulling his tool away to study the latest traces of iriil gleaming on her skin. "I sit here for hours on end, inking these things without being able to use the stuff myself, and doing damn fine job too, I might add. Can you begrudge me a bit of fun now and then?" He wipes a piece of cloth across the arm, then bends forward to work again.
Cen is left grumbling with no answer to give. Besides, it must be difficult working with this and knowing one has no aptitude for Kith. She had no idea how she was able to sense the energies herself, as they'd always been there, in the periphery. Once again, after steeling herself to endure the pain, she looks over at the man who is staring intently at her arm, wondering what it is like not sensing the same things she does.
Naturally, he catches her staring, raises a brow, but says nothing. She, on the other hand, blushes and turns her head away. Clearing her throat awkwardly, she says, "Anyway, as I as trying to say, I've been working on my glove, making sure it's ready." She pats the piece of tech in her lap. "I'm not very good at tinkering, but I'm trying to learn. Wouldn't want to be left standing out there with a malfunctioning piece of junk around my arm, especially not after you've worked so hard on that piece of art." She shoots him a winning smile, which turns out to be completely wasted as his eyes are locked intently on what's in front of him.
Wondering if he's even listening, she continues, "And then, you know, they're saying the sun in the Lyad System is going Supernova, so we'll probably all get blasted." Falling silent, she sits there and glances at him, waiting for a reaction. All she receives is a distracted "Mmhmm, good." She sighs and turns her head away again, trying not to wince as he adds to her tattoo.
Instead, she turns her attention to the glove underneath her other hand. She smiles. It's taken a long while to get her hands on one that fits her just right, not to mention looks the way she wants it to. Some of the swarm gloves are ridiculously cumbersome, and for a young woman of her stature it's seemed like the gloves have been wearing her rather than the other way around. This one, though, is perfect. At least it will be, once she is done working on it, she thinks. Right now it's barely passable, but it's sleek, it's light, and it's hers!
"Just about done now," the man says, once again pulling her out from her thoughts. She blinks at the time piece in wonder, realizing she's been spaced out for almost an hour. At least the pain hasn't been that bad. She studies the circuit lines along her arm, marveling at the intricacy of the pattern. "Wow, this looks better than I could ever have imagined!" she says, finally bringing a smile to the artist's lips.
"Nothing to it," he says, though there is a distinct note of pride in his voice. He finishes the job by wiping the skin clean and rubbing it with some kind of oil. "I'll give you a small bottle of this. Keep adding some every day, but carefully. Should be alright in a week or two."
She nods in understanding, still studying her new tattoo. It reaches far below where the edge of her glove will be, the lines ending at different distances above her wrist. Shifting the glove around, she carefully begins to put it on her hand, only to be stopped by the tattoo artist. "Can't do that just yet, ya' hear? Need to let it heal first," he says, causing her to let out an impatient sigh.
"Two weeks tops, you said?" she asks as she pays him for the job, and he nods before starting to clean and put away his things. Thanking him, she tucks the glove and bottle of oil away, then waves before exiting the door, humming happily to herself.

Re: Race Adjustments.
I have four reasons that make my suggestions more awesomesauce than others,: first, according to a facebook quiz my spirit creature is yogi bear which means I'm smarter than the average bear, second, I am REALLY good at remembering...um...stuff, third I take a one minute nap every 45 minutes which leaves me with 32 minutes of total sleep time per day, adding in the lunch breaks and the leap nap every fourth weekend and a few metaphysics for good measure my total sleep time is about 1/5th of a dog year, and fourth my dad shops at the farmers market so I ate really healthy while watching homo sapien mating in my room at night with the door closed and locked

Re: I just want to play the game.
> MUDs tend to be played by older, smarter and/or more mature people in general (at least in my experience). That doesn't mean you can't get your ass kicked if someone takes issue with you, lol.
All of our games have 'soft' rules around PvP, meaning that you can't just randomly kill people for no reason. Or rather, you can, as in the game code will let you, but you might end up getting sanctioned by the admin if someone complains and it's found you had no RP reason to kill the person. That said, there are exceptions. For instance, in Achaea, there are certain planes of existence where it's a free-for-all on PK, but you can simply not go there. We'll have a similar mix in Starmourn.
As far as how much you need to spend, I'll let others answer as any answer I give is going to inevitably be viewed as self-serving.
I will say, though, that we could give a newbie a leveled-up character with literally every advantage you can buy, and you'd still get your ass kicked by someone who has spent no money but has spent enough time to really understand combat.

Re: Q+A Madness - January 2018
At launch, no, nothing like guilds. We decided to see how players interact with the three main orgs (Scatterhome, Song Dominion, Celestine Ascendancy) and then decide how we want to proceed on that front.
