I can definitively say that at least one person who wants to RP/dungeon crawl without focusing heavily on PvP will exist in Starmourn. I am interested in RPing and dungeon crawling and while I'm not opposed to PvP, I strongly suspect it won't be one of my areas of primary focus. That said, I've never played an IRE game before so maybe I'll end up falling in love with the PvP system (unlikely, just isn't my style usually). My main interest is definitely role play and PvE though.

Yikes. I realize I don't know you at all, and I'm certainly not attempting to bash or judge, but you seem kind of primed to be defensive. I'm sure you have your reasons for that, but, I will say that in my experience, if you go into a situation looking for something hard enough, you'll find it. From what I have experienced in my limited time in the community, I haven't found anyone who seemed unreasonably excited about attacking other players OOCly or ICly. Unless there is a significant amount of missing context, I don't think @Arsentar was trying to bash you or twist the meaning of your post.
Re: Q+A Madness - January 2018
However, do take some other things into account too: EVERYthing in this game will be brand-spanking new too. There will be a ton to explore and I truly believe that most people will not have a chance to experience everything before they even start adding a lot. This is a chance to be in on the random fun of the start of an epic game. I missed other the start of other games and have always wanted to join one when it started.
Also, you have to look at this game differently than Achaea. This is across an entire galactic sector. The scope is enormous, and you need to consider how the scaling will be different. You suggest that you want Achaea's content on one planet, but the game isn't about ONE planet. I expect it to be exciting on a interstellar level, rather than a country, continent, or global, or even planar level. This is about relationships between entire worlds and alien species rather than city-states. That does raise a concern about how relatable it will be, but the dev team did say that they are going to work hard to shoot for making relationships relevant for players.
I'm super excited about this game and can't wait to get in and explore it personally. Given IRE's track record in the past (and a lot of their best people who have worked on IRE games in the past are building this one from scratch), I find it very difficult to believe that this game will be anything other than awesome.

Re: Name Reservation
Hmm, interesting idea. Maybe we'll consider it, though I'm fairly inclined to just let you guys, who are here on the forums and are the start of the Starmourn community, just reserve them for free.Sairys said:Early Adopter Package buy credits before the game releases, get to reserve a name.

Re: The State of PK (and a couple other questions)
I'll preface this by stating I do know how to code. Here is an example of some rather simple JavaScript I wrote: https://www.khanacademy.org/computer-programming/whack-a-lion/5831218387550208
Nonetheless I do stand behind @Bandus and @Baedundariel on their stance relating to external scripts being used to play the game. It shouldn't take an addon or coding knowledge to make the game accessible. Furthermore the fact only some players have a script to automate the game for them skews the balance of the game by, to continue @Dodger 's metaphor, putting some players on a bicycle whilst others have to run a foot race.
I respectfully disagree with @Dodger that playing with a home-made bot represents skill at playing the game. It certainly represents knowledge of the game mechanics and skill at programming, but skill at playing the game is the ability to apply the knowledge you have yourself rather than having something else play the game for you. Frankly automatic combat sounds boring and I'm gradually losing interest in the game because people make it sound important to the competitive scene. I don't want to spend ages learning to play the game how it was designed to be played only to be defeated by somebodies machine playing the game for them.
As for opt-in pvp/open pvp? In my experience I prefer open pvp. People tend to abuse the system if they know they can't be attacked and those who get too aggressive with their pvp in an open pvp game tend to get justice delivered by the in-game community eventually. It can make for some pretty awesome plots actually. Perhaps there should be a limit to the severity of the damage that can occur but players can be attacked at any time?

Re: PVE
Additionally, being able to practice on PvE builds confidence to eventually get into PvP, which would mean more people PvPing...
LOOOOVE it!!
Also, don't be afraid to slow combat down...
