Hopefully that doesn't trigger copyrights, though

Re: Can we talk about the Sexbot bar.
This is excellent news for me. Everything I’ve been reading about Starmourn points to this and I’m happy to hear I wasn’t just seeing what I wanted to see. And personally, I appreciate the restraint; I’m glad it’s R and not anything beyond.Aurelius said:We don't do ratings, but if we had them, Starmourn would be R.
Playing in a Bladerunner-esque world with sexbots, drugs, bourbon, exosuits, guns, and eyes getting poked out of their sockets is a dream-come-true for me, but a furry-porn chat room would be too much.
To Catch a Criminal (OOC)
Hello, everyone, I have come up with something that I hope you will like and want to take part in.
I've come up with a story - fairly short, I think - for a campaign. Now, I've never GM’d before, or even participated in tabletop roleplay, so if anyone wants to take the reins and be the GM, or just work alongside me, feel free to PM me. The story is pretty simple, though, and focusing on RP rather than rules, so it will not be difficult. Basically I'm taking the RP forums idea and adding a simple plot to it. See rules below. The story is also adaptable, if the players go a different direction than expected.
The premise of this story is that there is a criminal to catch. The chase will include moving to a few different locations. The cast is as follows:
For 4-6 players
The leader, a W’hoorn detective, also in the military
A starship pilot
A hacker
Muscle
Optional:
*Medic
*Diplomat
*Mechanic
*Scientist (Biologist, Anthropologist…)
*your choice
- You can choose the gender, name, and (except for the W'hoorn) race of your character. And, of course, their personality and motivations will be fashioned by you.
- Your character CAN die - but will of course resurrect in a cloning facility. So they will be out of the story, but not forever dead, so no worries if you're using your most favorite character.
- The GM handles ALL events and NPCs. You control only your character’s actions (and any pets/personal NPCs that belong to your character). And as was stated in the other list of rules, you may only state that you try to hit someone in the head, you don't get to say if the blow connects or not.
- The actions are decided not by dice rolls, but by whatever makes sense or makes a good story.
- When you are taking a turn, sign off with your name, and the name of the person that you think should logically come next, like this: Joe > Bob or Joe > Captain Thel (NPC). If another player thinks that they urgently need to react to the situation, they may steal, signing as follows: Joe > (Bob) > Captain Thel, Bob being the person who stole. Play fair, and don't hog the limelight.
- Respond within 2 days or someone else will take over your character. Exceptions can be made if you PM the group a heads up that you will be away for a bit.
- You may also be booted at the group's discretion if you don't play nicely. For example - not following the storyline, going against the other players or the GM, or otherwise being dumb or a jerk.
Please comment below if you're interested in playing, and comment or PM if you want to help me behind the scenes.
Character gender in Starmourn - the final word
We've decided that we're going to have a third after all, though we're not intending to go beyond that for a number of reasons.
We'll have male, female, and non-binary as gender options. The pronouns the game will use for the non-binary option are the familiar they/them/theirs (unlike Decheerans, who use 'it').
We feel like this is the best way to go because there are too many permutations of potential gender (especially in a sci-fi universe with the advanced cloning and genetic manipulation tech available) to cover mechanically and it gives players space to define what it means for themselves in whatever way they want, via descriptions, dress, actions, etc. We realized, in fact, that we never even have to address biological sex mechanically, and so we won't. Gender is going to refer to just that, gender. If you want to write your personal description so that your gender is a woman but you have a penis or vice-versa, that's up to you. You can do that in any of our games already anyway, since descriptions are free-form. (Not that I encourage you to include your genitals in your description. That's kind of tacky imo.)
So, anyway, that's what we're doing!

Re: Any advice for a first-time MUD player?
I'm a big gamer, and have always loved pen & paper games (especially the rp involved), so about a month ago I just googled "best games for roleplaying" and Achaea came up in one of the forums I found. As I was researching it, Starmourn instantly stole my attention on the main page because I’m a huge sci-fi fan, and then I saw that it was releasing this year and decided to join the forums and follow its progress.
The only other MUD-like experience I’ve ever had (aside from my preliminary adventuring in Achaea) is when I applied for a character in the Shadowrun Denver MUSH, but I never made it in because of all the character rules, I went through three rounds of character revisions before calling it quits (but that is more the fault of Shadowrun’s massive amount of rules rather than the MUSH itself).
I am also a backer of Star Citizen and while waiting for it to release I thought this would be a cool game to get into. Turns out I now have to wait for two amazing space games xD
