Re: Additional clarity around scripting requirements
I think there are two separate intentions here. One, expressed by those who wish for a complex system, is for the combat to be rich and rewarding to those who put time and effort into mastering it. Those people, as I understand, are anxious that automated curing will make combat outcome more linked to the character's level and artifacts bought than to the Player's skills, knowledge and creativity.
Others, myself included, have bad memories attached to the scripting systems. I was strongly discouraged as the entry to PvP required an insane amount of out-of-the-game activities, related more to mastering LUA/JavaScript than mastering the game mechanics.
I've been poking around Discord and this forum for a while now, and I do hope that Starmourn will be able to satisfy both of those needs: it will reward ingenuity and effort put into mastering the game, but will not rely on programming skills as a base requirement to even enter competitive PvP.

Re: Character Concepts

My character will be Adraxus Thrake, a human B.E.A.S.T. pilot that was born and raised in space. He's a fairly odd blend of idealistic and practical, in that he has noble goals but he's not naive - he knows hands will have to get dirty in order to accomplish them. Very driven, very dedicated to his cause and the people that are under his protection. Solid. Reliable. Steady. He's a good man at his core, disgusted by the unconscionable crimes committed by the likes of the Cleax, Voniken Krel and the Nabia.
Adraxus is honourable where it’s feasible, but he knows it's a luxury, and not something to throw lives or advantage away for. Somewhere on the scale of Lawful Good to Lawful Evil. Composed and dignified but not cold or rigid. Absolute confidence, very imposing presence, has a deep, rich voice - though it’s distorted to be more frightening when he’s in his B.E.A.S.T.
He absolutely adores space, and doesn't find it cold, empty or daunting at all. It's unspeakably beautiful to him, a wonder full of promise and possibility, untold freedom. He can often be seen standing before the viewports on his ship, hands clasped behind his back Darkseid style, gazing out at the stars.
Dresses very sharply and puts a lot of stock in how one presents oneself in regards to posture, mannerisms and the like. Intelligent, and very well read. Mannerly and courteous, but approachable and warm when not in command situations. he finds maintaining/working on his B.E.A.S.T. very satisfying and centering. Keeps it in pristine condition, routinely upgrades it. Hobbies and favoured pastimes include browsing through catalogues and magazines related to B.E.A.S.T.s and ships. He likes movies and pantomimes, is a sucker for comedies. He likes to build models, has a bunch of meticulously crafted spaceships, miniature B.E.A.S.T.s, etc in his quarters. Reads biographies and histories a lot.
Ideally, I’d love for him to be able to form a group (Name pending!) that is dedicated to bettering the galaxy and everyone in it - whatever it takes. It'll require multiple personnel roles in order to function as he envisions: Combatants for guard duty and protection, armed intervention and extermination. Transport staff, resource management, people to gather raw materials and manufacture what they need to be self sustaining, intelligence officers, etc, etc. That's a dream, though - I fully intend for him to do all of that himself, as he has every intention of shaping the galaxy into a better place singlehandedly if he needs to.
His B.E.A.S.T. has a somewhat knight-like aesthetic, and he has a fondness for melee combat.

Re: Beta Contest Commentary
Commenting so that Tecton isn't the last poster, so seeing this thread bumped will be less of a cock tease for people still hoping to get a beta invite.

So! How as the beta been going? I know the participants can't talk about it, but maybe the devs can give some insight on how it's progressing?
