This. It takes a particular kind of personality to do the monotonous grind that Starmourn (or most MUDs for that matter) requires to reach level cap and NOT get burned out in the process. And those people are already going to grind so you don't have to tell them that.
What you should do is build your presence in game. Get involved in your faction's activities, get people to know who you are. Be recognizable - it opens an incredible number of opportunities to Do Stuff in the game. Should you ignore your level though? No - grind away, but do it only if and when you feel like it, not because there's nothing else to do ingame. If you have a presence ingame then you will rarely lack alternatives, something to do when you don't feel like mobbing for hours.

What's the state of the different factions? And other questions.
Hey everyone!
Been a while since I've been on the forums, but life has evened out and I'm looking to get back into Starmourn. I'm basically a newbie again, so I thought I'd come here and try and catch up.
Specifically, what's the state of the factions? Are they all going strong? Is there any conflict going? Is it possible to play casually in every faction?
Also, it looks like there's a million new things to do and try and I can't even remember how to bash or hack or fly a ship so it might be a while before I even get to try that. But what's new that you'd absolutely recommend trying out?

Re: Really want to like this game but...
The main draw of these games and MUDs in general is not necessarily the PvE, or even the PvP, but the community and the fun you have being around other players.
I try not to take a WoW approach or one where I need to achieve certain goals to feel complete in Starmourn, I just hang out with the other funny and brilliant players and occasionally get up to being productive in some capacity.

If you were a newbie again...
What would you focus on?

Regarding the conflict, there has been a great deal of back and forth between Dominion and Ascendancy regarding cosmpiercers but they de-escalated for a goodwhile after the cosmpiercer system went through a series of changes.
And I can speak for CA, we are rather casual considering the faction itself is about late-stage capitalism along some revolutionist vibes, so it is more or less about involvement. Nobody will crack the whip on people for not involving themselves since RPwise Glisal II itself has fifty billion people on itself But more rewards for those who contribute like anywhere else. I believe other factions should have lots of rooms for casual playing as well. I mean it is a game after all.
And millions of things were already answered above!

[Admin edit]: You two, time out!
@Xiru But a more fair observation would be as follows:
Regarding organization Song Dominion and Celestine Ascendancy are on par but Song Dominion has more active and seasoned players right now. Scatterhome is as advertised it is a chaotical place and they are numerous too. Celestine Ascendancy has been always at smallest population even when Starmourn started and the players here seem be more EU-zone aligned while I see more Dominion players on US-timezone. When you seek activity you can find in all of them, I would not promote one over the other because I do not know the nature of your character or whether if you will roll a new one.

Re: Announcements post #77: Music, bands, performance!
I've done three gigs so far and I am LOVING this.
A few ideas:
A few ideas:
- make it so that we can test performance emotes outside gig time
- make it so that band members that are performing in a gig can't be forcibly moved from the concert hall
- make a ship upgrade that will allow you to add a concert hall to your ship

Will you allow people to smash those devices for the extra reaction from the crowd?Ilyos said:Slander said:I'd really like it if instruments were actual items. I realize that would mean spending some out of marks but I'd consider that a fair tradeoff for having different models for each (no mechanical difference, just different descs). I'd *totally* spend credits to customize my synthboard. This is going to happen soon!
Instrument makers gotta put food on the table after all!
