Re: Bashing After Crits
I would like to point out that pve is a defining aspect of starmourn, even though it isn't what it could have been. Out of respect for Zoe's intentions with this thread, I'm leaving out arguments in favour of removing crits.
Increased TTK plus experience to match would somewhat help the phenomenon where crit bashing has homogenised bashing rotations, and certainly get endgamers out of the levelling areas. So I support this.
BUT
Zoe's also pointed out that various areas exist but aren't really worthwhile. Only one class really has a tool to make jelle and northern usum worthwhile. But even beasts with smash are risking more to hunt these areas, and it's slower XP because of the need to be cautious, use smash and still retreat at times.
Proposal 1:
Increase XP of mobs that are more dangerous in groups.
Proposal 2:
Designate some existing unused areas to be scaled up to endgame status as per Zoe's proposal
Proposal 3:
Consider, over time, giving all classes some form of crowd control for pve. I don't mean smash. It could take different flavours without homogenising classes.
This doesn't need to mean Jelle and Usum. If the xp was just a little bit better, and more classes could handle groups, these would be balanced for 70+ as is.
There are a number of very cool areas that are just not worthwhile these days if trying to level fast, which the newbie challenge has encouraged (Anemoi anyone?) They've been eclipsed by better, safer places.
That's a shame and why not take areas like this and upgrade them to endgame status?
Bots also... these are slower to kill despite having lower HP and hitting harder. If that's the bot status quo now, maybe bump the exp?

Re: All I Want For Winterflame Is...............
I have two things - one I really want, and one I'd settle for if the first thing isn't viable for some reason.
What I really want for winterflame:
GMCP aggro / wind up data!
Currently, if you want to capture aggressive or winding mob data, you need to use INFO HERE and trigger the data.
Since the purpose of GMCP is to make life easier on UI builders - and allow for easy data display to users who don't know much about scripting - there's no real reason this information isn't in GMCP.
On a similar note, I'd love if props had related GMCP attribute tags for their status. Because that should also be a thing, but as a PvEer, I care less about it.
What I'd appreciate for Winterflame:
The GMCP 'messages' count doesn't update when you read a message. So, if your messages are part of your UI (which they are in Nexus.), it doesn't go away unless you do something that *does* update that number. Which is.. checking your score?
It should update properly when I read my message, like the news GMCP does.

Bashing After Crits
This has been discussed before on Discord and in passing on the forums, but I think it's an involved enough issue to warrant its own thread. The introduction of talents - critical hits in particular - has had a negative effect on endgame bashing because the legacy endgame areas were designed without the sort of DPS players now achieve. With max crits each area can support one basher, leading to a total of seven concurrent players bashing if I'm being generous. In practice, though, only Ixsei, Usum Usutti and New Dikamazi are regularly cleared by anyone, as the others are widely considered not worth the effort due to increased risk and/or low mob counts.
One solution I've seen suggested is to have new areas be high risk because of wandering aggro mobs. We already have these (Jelle, Gnomon) and it's easy to see that this isn't a solution at all because, as I said, they aren't regularly cleared. Adding new areas that present the same challenge people are already avoiding would be a waste of time. Changes can't be made to existing 'worthwhile' areas without negatively impacting pre-75 players, though, because Ixsei and ND are where most people go for their last 10 levels.
In my opinion, I think the best way to move forward with new areas taking into account the higher DPS we achieve would be to lower the TTK. If mob HP and XP gain were scaled up to match the TTK and XP/M of pre-criticals bashing, the area would both be a viable alternative to the overhunted areas we currently have and probably be able to support more than one person at a time.
Also, none of this is intended to be me saying 'this is what you should work on' so much as 'these are things that should be taken into consideration if/when any work is done on new areas.'

Re: Holiday Wish-list
Sounds almost like playing a text game with classes and levels and a pvp system.

Holiday Wish-list
Happy Holidays everyone!
I wanted to spend a small pocket of free time discussing the one thing I really super duper wish Starmourn had. That of course being:
Minipet League
I think it'd be EXTREMELY COOL if we had some form of minipet combat. They could level up, have skill choices, have weaknesses and strengths. Have their own arena event. As the system expands, you could have other game loops have small chances to drop super cool, rare minipets. You could install NPC pet trainers. Have WILD minipets to combat and/or capture. You could make a way for someone to level entirely without having to go bash! Grab your trusty companions, and take on the next miniboss! Each area could have a trainer (more down the road hopefully!) and fighting them could give you, and your pets!, experience.
Could make a few pet 'families' which are strong/weak against the other ones. Voidkith, Starkith, Mechanical, Wild....imagine the fun!
This is my dream endgame. I don't go save the universe because it needs saving. I go save it, because that super boss monster might drop a starkith rockhopper. And by golly, that little guy needs a new home. With me. I don't get on every day to mindlessly grind out another perk point. I get on every day to mindlessly grind out a perk point that makes my minipets more awesome in some way. And I grind that point, by taking on the Minipet League, the true masters of the art, who wait for me to come to challenge them.

Re: All I Want For Winterflame Is...............
Wouldn't mind expansion of the conceptual idea of the commsphere.
The only direct interface players have with that idea is the backsides of doors to open them.
What would the front facing elements be to the general public? Would there be surface level websites that overlay your vision? Would there be digital spaces that require a full sensory override to access? Digital marketplaces and shady abstract hacker spaces? Could you telepresent yourself via digital projection over someone else's augmented reality?
This is obviously low priority rp stuff with expansion of the hacking system, ultimately, but stuff id be interested in seeing expanded on someday none the less.

Re: All I Want For Winterflame Is...............
Expanded prompt functionality - target health % in the prompt would be the main thing I want. Nexus has target health in the UI and it's available via gmcp, but I don't want to make a custom clientside prompt when I could just have it as a token like other IRE games do.

Announcements post #168: Winterflame Requests.
From: World Engineer Senzei
Subject: Winterflame Requests.
Hello Starmourners!
As a bit of a little present to the community I will be taking requests for ideas, bugs, features, etc. I have a forum topic for this, so I can keep everything in one neat little place. Please post there, rather than message me, as I need run things by other people depending what it is!
Happy Holidays! May I bring just a little more joy to the season.

Re: All I Want For Winterflame Is...............
This one is from @Afesotinuilar who, for some reason, cannot post here.
<3 Thank you, Senzei Claus! I feel bad for not getting you anything! I would love to be able to reference/lookup specific items in your inventory or in the room with a little more flexibility! For example; If I have 5 cakes to hand out, I want to be able to be able to '3.cake' to hand out the third 'cake' item in my inventory. If I'm holding a bunch of cookies and get handed an extra one, I want to be able to give 'last.cookie' back to its rightful owner. If I'm surrounded by 3 different colours of algerions, and only want to kill the saffron-coloured one, I want to be able to attack '2.algerion' specifically. If I'm carrying all my candy, and I see a piece of candy on the floor, I want to be able to 'p candy here' to examine the item in the room rather than my inventory.
