  • I get what you're saying, but it doesn't explain why a guild leader would make gaining class difficult.

My guild had a series of optional tasks with rewards that some people valued. It also had the advancement 'paths' and whatever that ma…
  • In the years since, the IRE games were all told to relax their requirements drastically, and in Achaea classes are separate from houses.
Aetolia, over the years, has had several rounds of 'make it easier to gain class, or we'll just do what …
  • The reasons for getting money pre-launch, when it is a graphical game - a highly competitive market, hugely dependent on media, hype etc, don't really apply to Starmourn.
While getting cash flow ASAP is no doubt important for such a company, e…
  • It does raise the question though, of whether there could be some kind of early adopter/pre-purchase package, and what may be in it, or how it could work.

None of the reasons the graphical games do it, make sense here though. That I can t…
  • Will their be downloadable map data?

Ignoring space, I'm assuming the format of rooms and exits is similar to the rest of IRE?

Any chance of character data being available as a download as it is with Achaea?
  • Will there be server-side queuing in some shape or form?
    Aussie latency :(
  • GMCP? Will the game be leveraging gmcp from the outset?

What are some of the biggest 'lessons learned' from the other IRE muds over the years?

Which of.the IRE muds (possibly at particular points in time) do you think had the b…
  • Canberra, Australia
    Recently moved from Sydney.
  • I'm excited about the concept of reverse engineering things to create unique items. This potentially means there will be loot drops, and therefore tangible rewards for being an explorer type character.

    I mostly  haven't been a crafter in …
  • Cool, thanks for the extra tidbits there. I like the targeting sensor idea. I would have assumed it would be only accuracy, but the lock-on concept is great.

I suppose I could dig up a numpad but really, what else are touch screens for i…
  • Very true. I've got really high hopes for this particular IRE game,  based on the experience in the dev team.

None of the other games have had this level of experience on the initial build team.

  • Aetolia has one class that works something like that, distinct from the other classes. Shapeshifting is something anyone can learn, and the 3 skillsets involved with it temporarily replace your current class skillsets when you shapechange.

  • That's about all that's needed really. Being able to put names into the emote and have the various his/her/you see/they do this etc to be filled in for the first, second and third person views. The mixing in of speech that Aetolian emotes allow is n…

  • Can we please have a custom emote system beyond just EM <some text> ?

  • @Aurelius
Cool vid. Frustrating tease too, of course.
Can we assume that targeting another ship is done by name, similar to avatar combat, rather than…
  • Human in Scatterhome hasn't changed but the class will depend on what they're all actually like to play, mechanics-wise.

I tend to enjoy classes with a lot of utility and different options. So while engineer or scoundrel sound great for t…
  • I found Achaea in, I think, the start of 2000. Maybe the year before. I'd tried a few other muds but Achaea's community was really welcoming at the time and I played it fairly solidly until Aetolia began.

I've since played all of the IRE…
  • I imagine Matt and the team have discussed which IRE game has had the 'best' pvp rule set and would be pulling ideas from there.

I wonder how different the admin perspectives on that differs from players?
  • In a scifi world though, we ought to pay at least a little bit of respect to genetics. Obviously stuff doesn't have to be completely realistic - but unless you're hybrid by means of gene splicing then the necessary suspension of disbelief required b…
  • That said there have been plenty of classes in IRE with some support skills (I would say most, to varying degrees) and some players have played them more as support classes.

So I wouldnt be surprised if you can find a way to play some of …
  • Combat spam is a barrier not just to newbies, but to returning pvpers. I know how much time and practice it took me to be able to follow the text in every other ire game. I also know that it's spammier and faster NOW even with the provided tools to …
  • Why would you ever refer to your own accent anyway? You can type out your words in a french-inspired accent if you want, but to your character it's everyone else that speaks funny.

  • Human all the way, but that's the same for me in most games. I sometimes force myself to try other races but the further it is from human, the more I struggle to build the picture in my head.
  • Engineer... though possibly scoundrel if there is room/opportunity to kit him out with gadgets some other engineer has made.

It is difficult to lock anything in without seeing the 5th class though.
