If BEAST suits are like other armor and come in parts, are individual BEAST abilities tied to having particular parts equipped (gloves for the stabby knife, for example), or will the whole suit need to be equipped to use any abilities?

And if BEAST suits do not have individual parts, will you include something like a RAISE FACEPLATE command so I can have a drink without getting naked?
BEAST suits are basically a frame that your heavy armor parts go on, so you'll upgrade the various pieces like a non-BEAST class would. As for your weapon loadout, the frame has small/medium/large slots, that have a variety of weapons that fit into each size. So you can change your loadout to your situation.
Battletech intensifies? Will there be non-humanoid B.E.A.S.T. frames?

Given how we capture mineral-rich asteroids on tethers, would it not be apropos to say that we fish for mines?

Somehow I always thought they were found in fields.

No plans on having them be non-humanoid at launch! Maybe down the line!

Is there any exciting new development on spaceships (trade, combat, or anything else) after your latest update on the topic that you can share with us?
Hrrm, not much more new there! Mostly all finished!
  • 1. Why there no space commies?
    2 Will
    be endgame boss?
    3. What regulates usage of Nuclear or other highly destructive weapons?
    4. Will we be able to introduce taxes?
  • 1. Is group PVE different than other IRE games?  IE: Healer/Tank/DPS combo viable vs Self Sufficient.
    2. In other IRE games you "sip health" to instantly gain some hitpoints, does this work differently in starmourn? How?
    3. I've seen a lot of similarities to eve-online through the updates. Surprised neither of you had played it.  Could you provide some detail on how characters go up in skill level? (Lessons or time based? or some other method?)
    4. Will the credit market (buying/selling credits for marks) be live from release?
    5. Will there be a reward (similar to dragon) for obtaining level cap at release?
    6. Will all classes have momentum and prep options or will that vary by class?

    1) Each class can stand on its own, we're not doing a holy trinity setup.
    2) Wetwiring will cure your health automagically.
    3) Lessons for most class/general skills, there's a couple of skills that are "level up by doing"
    4) Yep.
    5) There will be a reward for reaching max level, yes.
    6) For the most part, yes.

Wasn't a yes or no question... Will a single class have both options, or is it either/or ?

Most classes have a momentum and prep option.
  • Why no answer for mine? Not all of them are meme

    3. Nothing, generally.
    4. Introduce? Not really, you'll be able to influence them somewhat by where you chose to build factories and store cargo.
  • 1. Will there be any skills between classes that synergize with/enhance allies?
    2. Every single IRE mud has god roles of some kind, be they cult spirits or actual divine. Is there an equivalent here?
    3. If you die on another planet, does your ship get towed to where your clone revives?
    4. Does each class have multiple styles of weaponry within their class? For example: Beast has configurable suit, Scoundrel has configurable pistol, etc.
  • Does the postal system handle bulk freight, albeit expensively?

    1. Some minor ones offer utilitarian benefits, but there's nothing that's specifically designed to play a major combat advantage by teaming up.
    2. No gods, but we will have something for volunteers to help drive RP.
    3. No, but you can quickly set your cloning station pretty easily in most places where you land your ship.
    4. BEAST has the most variety, others generally use more fixed weapon options.

The DSD corporation only handles personal mail, shipping bulk cargo is in the hands of the players!

I may be wrong, but I think they may have been asking about leaving your ship on a planet and then portal travelling to another (or several other). At that point, if you die on that planet, if you haven't set your clone point to that planet, you'll pop back up where you left your ship, if you set that as your point, correct? And if you set it to the planet you died on, you can, hopefully, portal your way back again?
Also, cargo by ship only. Thank you!

You'll always clone where you manually set your cloning location. All space stations that you'll be landing on have cloning facilities on them, and setting your cloning location is all balanceless action. In the event that you don't set your cloning location, we don't currently bring your ship back to you, but you should be able to either:

    a) catch a ride back to where you were with another player.
    b) use the inter-station transport system to move from station to station to get back to where you were docked. The number of hops here depends on how far out you were.

  • 1. Has hacking received any changes or updates since it was last teased?
    2. Do races have Racial Traits? (I forgot if this was asked yet)
    3. Does your clothing system support layering? Which Hides/reveals items depending on coverage?
    4. Customizing Nanoseer Gauntlets/BEAST Suits/Scoundrel PIECEs? I think they cost 100cr, will they be free for those?

    1. Not much has changed with hacking, it's been generally ready to go for months. Will likely need a final pre-launch play through to make sure it's all ready, but other than that!
    2. No racial traits or anything that influences combat in any way. We want your race to be your choice, allowing you to roleplay how you want, rather than forcing you to be race <x> that has 0.002% theoretical higher damage.
    3. Yes, layering works pretty much the same way it does in Achaea.
    4. Most of those are gear that you'll loot/buy and change frequently (especially as you level). Customisation will likely need to be handled a bit differently for those sorts of things, when we offer it.

    1. Roughly what % of PvP conflict do you expect to take place in spaceships vs. on the ground? Is it mostly one or the other?
    2. Were there any constraints from the combat systems of other IRE games that you were excited to discard?
    3. Also I'm curious about the technical side of running an IRE game/infrastructure -- what language(s) is Starmourn written in? Can you share anything about your systems architecture?
  • Is gravity manipulation as a technology prohibitively expensive for most people, and restricted to uses aboard ships and stations and the like, or can we expect to see things like zero-g sports facilities, swimming pools, spas and so on?

Can I build myself a zero-g bowling alley, is what I'm really asking.

    1. No idea really, that's entirely up to players. We're attempting to make them both equally appealing (in different ways), so hopefully people partake in both!
    2. Hmm, not really - removing the need for hundreds of cures that needed to be memorised/scripted has been liberating!
    3. It is written in a custom language for our Rapture engine. The language itself is quite similar to C.

Engineers use a bit of gravity manipulation, so it's definitely not out of the realm of personal use! As for the lore / building elements, I'd have to rope @Eukelade in to answer that one. I imagine you could build yourself a zero-g bowling alley though!

  • Will players be able to add cloning facilities to their ships or personal homes?
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
    Through passion, I gain strength.
    Through strength, I gain power.
    Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free.

    ----
Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive, today.
    ----
    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

  • Will players be able to add cloning facilities to their ships or personal homes?
No plans at this stage! That may change in the future though!
  • 1) I'm not certain if this has been asked before, but if it has, the answer is eluding me - will Hacking be a source of experience and money?

    B) I was just reading over the article about Bounties again, and the thought struck: Are there plans to have non-combat bounties available?
  • Will kill assists be a thing, similar to Aetolia?

    1) Well, yes and no. You get hacking XP for hacking, which raises your rank and unlocks new skills. Most of the time you'll be using hacking will be on quests, so while you won't directly get persona xp and marks, you will as a result of your quest.

    2) (Sorry, brain won't let me use B here :p) Yes, hacking-type ones, as well as some puzzle-solving ones can be expected.
