Civilizations and Choices!

So, since we're all fresh and shiny-new, and I've been dying to talk to people about Starmourn since the first newsletter, let's get some chatter going! Specifically about the three civilisations! For those of you not aware, they are;

http://www.starmourn.com/celestine-ascendancy/  - Primary races are the W'hoorn, the Nath-el, the Shen, and the Tukkav. Poor people get to live in the smog below, the rich get to live in almost literal ivory towers!

http://www.starmourn.com/scatterhome/  - Humanity's defacto home, with hefty numbers of Elgan, Krona, and Bushraki, it's a collection of asteroids that have been converted into habitats. Haven (heh) for the less law-abiding!

http://www.starmourn.com/song-dominion/  - Formerly a beautiful paradise, now an irradiated wasteland home to the floating Song City, a cooperative effort between the Decheerans, the Nusriza, the Amaians, and the Ry'nari.

I'd strongly encourage folks to read the articles if you haven't already, they're much better at painting a picture of the various civilisations than my rushed one-line tidbits! I think the three civilisations are pretty great, each with a distinctive feel, and they're all very sci-fi. I'd love to hear which one you all like, what civilisation you might end up picking, and your thoughts and ponderings in general!

Personally, I am all for that sweet, sweet Song City life. I can't not love the sheer, wilful stubborn spite it took to remain there after the planet got trashed. It speaks to me. Plus it's got my favourite races!

  • Since I'm going to be w'hoorn i'll be in the ceestine ascendancccy

  • Celestine Ascendancy here as well, not having my Shen stoop to the other civilizations
  • I am for Celestine Ascendancy. I think the maze of the lower city and dense population will create some cool rp opportunities.
  • we shall make the ascend the best
  • I'll probably start myself out either in Scatterhome, or Song City; I already play in a Celestine Ascendancy-type situation in my current IRE game, so as much as I love the dichotomy, I feel like trying something new!
  • Thanks for the links.  Shall read 'em. <3

  • I'm also excited about Song City for their resilience and stubbornness. But all of them look well done at this point. I'm interested in how the world ends up.
  • I'm fond of Scatterhome. With Earth vanishing from existence, it serves as the primary home for the humans. Add in the Blood Ark, a seedy underground, and a melting pot of races - Scatterhome is ripe for all sorts of exciting adventures, discoveries, and character growth.
  • Just to clarify, while certain races originally formed those civilizations, you'll be able to play any race in them, though RP-wise, if you were, say, a Decheeran in Scatterhome, you'd be pretty alone in terms of your race. There wouldn't be any Decheeran NPCs there, for instance.

We kind of figured but I know for me I want to stick with the most common rp sense for my race that way I can feel out the game. Whenever I make an alt I may end up trying diffwerent chagnes

  • So the Ascendancy has a tentative early lead! Very interesting. I would have wagered that Scatterhome would be the most popular, because, well. Pirates, and I imagine it speaks to Firefly fans on a deep and spiritual level!

What's drawn you folks to your choices? Is it the culture, the vibe of the civilisation, their attitude, or a more 'boy howdy I sure do love me some floating cities!' ?
  • I like Scatterhome because it seems like it would be the most boisterous: it's a loose alliance of rowdy races in a place where they can be (like @Amondrask said) pirates or whatever. As for my interest in Song City, the artwork is lovely; I assume it would be a lovely place to play something less irritating. Like a particularly quiet Decheeran.
  • My whole thing with the Ascendancy is the Shen helped found it, so it makes the most sense to me to have my character be in the Ascendancy
  • I'm definitely getting that sort of fairly peaceful, serene vibe from Song as well. Although, with the Ry'nari there, I have to wonder if that's entirely true.
  • Maybe the Ry'nari are the errant firework set off in the backyard of peaceful suburbia.
  • That's an image I can fully embrace! As much as I like the whole serenity thing, it'd be great to have Song feel more lively and dynamic than just a forest commune in space, sorta deal.
  • I will certainly be a member of Scatterhome, as a human.
  • Song Dominion, most likely.
  • Song Dominion. Make the uninhabitable wastes great again!
  • "May Song Dynasty last 10,000 years. . ." oops, watching too much Marco Polo on Netflix!  Probably the Song Dominion.
  • Something something Piracy.
  • Scatterhome will likely be it for me, at least for a start. Who knows where it will go from there.
  • Song Dominion for me!

  • Scatterhome as I really like the concept of the Jinn. Given thats where the Blood Ark parked and eventually powered down, I can't see why not!
  • Scatterhome sounds perfect for what I've got in mind..

Pilot for hire, with questionable morals on being a swift courier service.. Giving me Elite Dangerous vibes!

    Zhill says, "Drats."
You say to Zhill, "Thanks anyways! I'm gonna go break more things!"
    Zhill tells you, "You show'em!"
You joyfully tell Zhill, "I sure will!"
You laughingly tell Zhill, "Or I'll die horribly! Ahahaha!"
